Look For Casey
In Alan Wake 2, each chapter generally follows a consistent format. In Saga's chapters, she frequently visits her Mind Place to generate fresh leads that guide her towards an Overlap. Although the specific reasons vary, the mechanics remain unchanged. Due to its brevity, Return 4 has been combined with the walkthrough for the subsequent chapter, Return 5: Old Gods. This next chapter is considerably lengthier, and players of Alan Wake 2 can anticipate the following as they advance through Return 5: Old Gods.
Once the cutscene concludes, players will assume the role of Alan. Proceed towards the exit door to vacate the room. Unfortunately, the direct path out of the building is obstructed, requiring you to trace the path marked by blood. This will lead you to the rear of the structure, where you can retrieve a shotgun and a flashlight.
Progress is hindered by darkness. Utilize the flashlight to illuminate the path. As soon as the darkness dissipates, anticipate an attack from a Taken and be prepared to evade swiftly. Proceed further into the forest and search the box fastened to the lamp post. Ammunition will be exceedingly limited, thus it is imperative not to waste a single shot.
Continue tracing the trail and diligently search for Casey. Eventually, Alan will lose consciousness once more. A cinematic scene will unfold, leading to the culmination of this chapter as Saga encounters the FBC.
Go to Valhala Nursing Home
Begin by opening the map as the next chapter commences to acquaint yourself with the area. Instead of retracing your steps to Watery, venture to a new section of Bright Falls where the Valhala Nursing Home is located. Follow the designated path and utilize the save point if necessary.
Moving ahead along the path, players will encounter a confrontation with two Taken wolves. Address this threat and proceed towards the nursing home. Within the premises, there are two structures—the Manor and the Wellness Center. Temporarily disregard the Wellness Center and approach the Manor. Despite the chapter already being underway, it will be displayed on the screen once players ring the doorbell at the Manor.
Find Odin and Tor
Rose reluctantly allows Saga inside despite her reservations about seeing Tor and Odin. Take the opportunity to gather information by speaking to the other residents in the nursing home.
Exploring the premises reveals numerous interesting discoveries, such as Rose's nostalgic shrine to Alan Wake in the Admin's Office on the first floor. Additionally, a helpful map can be found in the same room. Don't forget to thoroughly search the nursing home for chests and drawers containing valuable ammunition that will prove useful in the future. For convenience, a save point can be found in the Recreation Room on the second floor.
To advance the narrative, head to the second floor and enter Tor's room, which has been ransacked. Conduct a thorough search of the room before proceeding to Odin's room. Attempt to initiate a conversation with Odin, ensuring that you engage him in dialogue twice to unlock the option to profile his character. When profiling Odin, a distinctive reaction will occur, leading to the appearance of three additional choices. Complete the profiling process for Odin and then transfer all the gathered evidence onto the Case Board.
Afterwards, head towards the second floor trophy room where you'll encounter an elderly lady gazing out of the window. To your surprise, she is a Taken, similar to Nightingale and the Deputies. Return downstairs and have a conversation with Rose once more.
Search the Wellness Center
Rose will unlock the door, granting players entry into a different section of the Nursing Home. The entrance to the Wellness Center will become accessible. Retrieve the Wellness Center map located on the wall just inside. Proceed to the Patient area and thoroughly explore Patient Room 102. Inside, you will find a bed with blood-soaked bandages and two potential pieces of evidence that can be collected.
The Dispensary features a save point and a storage shoebox. Once prepared, proceed south through Rehabilitation. If attempting to follow Tor, be prepared for a jumpscare followed by the locking of the door. Proceed into the hallway and make your way towards the office.
Starting from the office, head north towards the Workshop and Security Room. Within the Security Room, there is a password-protected computer. While hints can be found throughout the room, the password is 170823, which is one of the dates circled on the August 2023 calendar. Utilize the computer to unlock the door. Prior to any other tasks, exit the Security Room and continue north towards Ward Reception.
Go to the Staff Lounge and locate the check-in station. Look below the desk and find a door knob. Take the door knob and use it to open the door leading to the workshop where the Rifle is located. Return to the previously locked door that was encountered while pursuing Tor. Be prepared to confront a very unsettling Taken. Shoot at the Taken until it disappears, then remove the darkness that is blocking the door. Remain vigilant, as the Taken is still alive. Shoot it a few more times to ensure it does not get back up.
Find Tor
Evidence suggests that Tor passed through the kitchen, evident from the hammer embedded in the wall and the bandages scattered on the floor. This particular route leads back outside, triggering a cutscene. Once the cutscene concludes, make your way towards the nearby bench to find Rose. While she may not provide immediate answers, taking the time to profile her becomes a viable option. Exhaust all possible leads before approaching Rose for further conversation.
Rose provides players with a key that grants them increased access to the facility. Additionally, players can unlock another profiling option for Odin. To enter another Overlap, players must locate a record that is located in the museum.
To proceed, return to the nursing home and make your way to the second floor, specifically Room 207. With Rose's keyfob, accessing this room should be hassle-free. On the floor, instead of the record, there is a collectible item. Following a jumpscare, players gain the ability to profile Cynthia. Repeat this process three times and then proceed to Cynthia's room on the third floor. Despite Cynthia's determination to keep players out, the power goes out when they attempt to unlock her room.
Restore Power
Following Ahti's advice, proceed to the basement by exiting through the location shown in the image. You will find a door that leads to the basement. Descend into the basement and locate the fusebox. Once again, you will need to find a replacement fuse for the one that is broken. On the northern side of the basement, search for an accessible crawlspace. This will lead you to a storage room where a locked box containing fuses can be found.
To unlock the box, refer to the laundry room where a note discloses the code as 273. Return to the lockbox, input the code, and unlock it to obtain a fuse. Revisit the fusebox and insert the new fuse to restore power to the nursing home. while making your way back upstairs, utilize Rose's keyfob to open a small adjacent room containing supplies. Finally, return to Cynthia's room and utilize the keyfob to gain entry.
In this room, players will discover various references to the narrative of the initial Alan Wake, along with multiple pieces of evidence. Once the room has been thoroughly investigated, reexamine Cynthia's profile. To advance the story, proceed to the bathroom and utilize the flashlight to eliminate the darkness enveloping the bathtub. Lastly, retrieve the record.
Perform the Ritual
Head back to the Stage located on the first floor. Be vigilant for two Taken creatures that wander around this area. Place the record into the jukebox and proceed outside to the source of the bright light. Make your way into the pond and approach it to access the Overlap.
Explore the narrow passageways where players will eventually encounter a loop marked by the ominous message "Beware of the Drowned Lady" on the wall. In order to break free from this loop, simply turn around and proceed in the opposite direction. Follow this alternate path until reaching a generator, which can be activated to trigger the lights and alter the environment, reminiscent of one of Alan's chapters.
To progress further, unlock the gate. As expected, this initiates the looping phase of an Overlap. This time, upon reaching the looping corridor with the message, players will encounter a dead end. In order to advance, turn back and find yourself in a new area. Keep an eye out for a crawlspace to pass through, leading to some useful supplies on the other side. Return to the starting point and ascend the stairs to discover another light switch and a locked cabinet requiring a key.
Flip the switch, search for additional supplies, and then switch the other one. Look for the key in one of the cabinets nearby. Deactivate the first switch to relock the cabinet and utilize the key to acquire the Bolt cutters. Disable the other light to unveil the gate that can only be accessed by using the Bolt cutters. Descend the ladder and ascend the adjacent stairs to initiate the subsequent cycle.
Get the Lights On
To access a new area, follow this designated pathway. Attempt to utilize the control panel located in the center of this chamber. Be cautious as there is an abundance of water present, making it undesirable to linger. Swiftly navigate across each small platform to evade Cynthia. Proceed towards the outer perimeter of the room and head left. Progress from one secure location to another. Continue along this designated route until you eventually arrive at a generator. Activate it and swiftly move to the right, ascending onto a platform that leads back to the central area.
How to Beat Cynthia
Without further ado, make a speedy descent to the central platform of the room, employing a drop-down approach. Trigger the switch, initiating an illuminating sequence that dispels the murky waters. This course of action not only secures the environment for easy movement, but also unveils a staircase leading to lower depths. However, remain vigilant and adequately prepared for an impending altercation.
Upon entering the lower floor, players are immediately met with the eerie presence of dark water, signifying the imminent confrontation with Cynthia. Taking a more aggressive stance, Cynthia hovers in the air and begins launching deadly projectiles towards the players. Quick reflexes and evasive maneuvers are crucial as players must run and dodge these projectiles. Interestingly, the beam emitted from the flashlight possesses the ability to eliminate these deadly projectiles as they zero in on their targets. While dodging, players should also aim to engage Cynthia in battle by continuously shooting at her during the intervals between her projectile attacks. Eventually, Cynthia will descend to the ground, providing an opportunity for players to weaken her shield using the flashlight and inflict significant damage. Once she recovers, the process must be repeated until Cynthia is ultimately defeated. Following the riveting battle, players should proceed to have a conversation with Tor.
Speak to Saga and instruct her to communicate with him internally, in her own mental realm. Fully explore all available choices to advance Tor's storyline. Afterwards, engage in a conversation with Tor, and utilize the Bolt Cutters to unlock the nearby gate. Return to the eastern save point. The narrative will then transition back to Alan's subsequent chapter. Alan Wake 2 is currently accessible on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
