Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal made history on Tuesday by setting a new world record for the most consecutive victories in men's soccer. They secured their 28th win in a row by defeating Al-Ittihad 2-0 in the AFC Champions League, surpassing the previous record held by Welsh team The New Saints during the 2016/17 season.
Before Al Hilal, Dutch giant Ajax had held the record for 44 years with a 26-game winning streak between 1971 and 1972.
Manager Jorge Jesus expressed his delight at achieving world football history with Al Hilal's 28 consecutive wins. He called it an incredible achievement and thanked everyone at the club for their contribution to this remarkable winning streak.

Unfortunately, Al-Ittihad's hopes of making a comeback were dashed when Abderrazak Hamdallah received a red card for grabbing Ali Al-Bulaihi by the throat. This incident occurred just before Malcom scored Al-Hilal's second goal in stoppage time.
"Jesus emphasized that trophies are more important than records at Al-Hilal. He urged everyone to work together to secure the Roshn Saudi League championship and succeed in the cup competitions. This, he said, is when true celebrations can take place."
"Al-Hilal, aiming for their fifth Asian title, is set to face Al Ain in the Champions League semifinals. Al Ain defeated Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr, paving the way for Al-Hilal's upcoming challenge."
Al-Hilal hasn't lost a game since August 12 and has been on a winning streak since September 25.
The team is dominating the Saudi Pro League this season, sitting comfortably on top of the table with a 12-point lead over Al-Nassr. What's even more remarkable is that they have achieved this success without their star player Neymar, who had knee surgery in November.
According to Guinness World Records, Olympique Lyonnais Féminin has the most consecutive wins in soccer – men’s or women’s – with 41 across all competitions between 2012 and 2013.
