Warning! This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episodes 1 and 2.
Summary
Thrawn's whereabouts are disclosed in Ahsoka - he is thought to have been banished to a distant galaxy, separate from the primary galaxy of Star Wars.
In The Mandalorian, Moff Gideon indirectly mentions Thrawn's elusiveness by stating that he has no information regarding Thrawn's location, even though he is affiliated with the Imperial Shadow Council.
Captain Pellaeon is stalling for time while Morgan Elsbeth searches for Thrawn. He remains loyal to Thrawn and is attempting to persuade other Imperial leaders of Thrawn's significance in restoring the Empire's power.
A major revelation regarding Grand Admiral Thrawn is unveiled by Ahsoka, involving the fate of the Admiral. Interestingly, this revelation was teased in The Mandalorian season 3. Following the conclusion of Star Wars Rebels, Grand Admiral Thrawn vanished after being essentially kidnapped by the young Jedi Ezra Bridger, with the assistance of the purrgil creatures capable of traveling through hyperspace. Initially, it was believed that Ezra and Thrawn were simply lost somewhere in the galaxy, beyond the Outer Rim within the Unknown Regions. However, as Ahsoka has recently disclosed, Thrawn (and likely Ezra) are located much farther away.
Thrawn is no longer lost in the primary galaxy of Star Wars. He is believed to be in exile in a completely different galaxy. Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth, an Imperial warlord, possesses a star map that shows the way to Peridea. While Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi turned mercenary, believes Peridea to be a mere fairytale, Morgan is convinced of its existence. There is even a possibility that the people of Dathomirian Nightsisters are descended from Peridea. This revelation of extragalactic lore is a significant change for the Star Wars universe, which has always revolved around a single galaxy. Only Moff Gideon from The Mandalorian could have predicted this unexpected development.
Moff Gideon Claimed His Agents Across The Entire Galaxy Had No News Of Thrawn
Gideon didn't know exactly where Thrawn was, but he hinted that finding him wouldn't be easy. In the penultimate episode of The Mandalorian season 3, Gideon attended a meeting with the Imperial Shadow Council and leaders from other scattered Imperial Remnants. Thrawn was mentioned as the Empire's last hope, but Gideon doubted it. Captain Pellaeon, a loyal follower of Thrawn, believed that keeping his return a secret was crucial for the Empire's survival. Gideon, on the other hand, claimed to have never heard a whisper of Thrawn's whereabouts despite his reputation for gathering information. It is unlikely that Gideon would have any knowledge of Thrawn's presence if the Grand Admiral was not in the primary galaxy of Star Wars. This line was probably not a coincidence, considering Dave Filoni's involvement in both The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. It also suggests that secrets are being kept by all remaining Imperial leaders within the Shadow Council. Gideon has shown that most of them are only interested in gaining power for themselves. The scene with the Shadow Council implies that only Captain Pellaeon might know the truth about Thrawn's disappearance from the council.
Pellaeon Is Playing For Time While Lady Morgan Finds Thrawn
Now that Ahsoka has offered more insight into Thrawn's disappearance, the Shadow Council scene in The Mandalorian takes on a different perspective. It appears that Pellaeon is trying to maintain stability while Morgan Elsbeth seeks a way to locate Thrawn. Pellaeon remains devoted to Thrawn, but he is also actively trying to persuade the other Shadow Council members that the Grand Admiral is crucial in restoring the Empire's power. He is buying time, hoping to appease his fellow Imperial leaders until they realize Thrawn's significance. As the show progresses, Ahsoka will provide further clarity on Thrawn's role in the Empire's plans.
