Ahsoka Shatters Jedi Convention, Surpassing Anakin's Unprecedented Feat

Sabine shatters Anakin's record in Ahsoka by becoming the oldest Jedi Padawan ever and still holding the title Unveiling a remarkable achievement in the Jedi Order's history

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episodes 1 and 2.

Summary

Sabine Wren surpasses Anakin Skywalker's record as the eldest individual ever accepted into the Jedi Order. Commencing her training at approximately 29 years of age in Ahsoka, Sabine encounters a distinctive predicament due to her advanced age and strong emotional connections.

Sabine Wren, being the oldest individual to embark on her Jedi training, will also become the oldest to successfully complete it, which could potentially extend her journey into her thirties. By serving as Ahsoka Tano's Padawan in "Ahsoka," Sabine Wren has achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing the previous record held by Anakin Skywalker. Anakin was discovered by Qui-Gon Jinn on Tatooine in "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" and entered the Jedi Order at the age of nine, making him the oldest person to do so at that time. However, concerns arose among Jedi Masters due to his pre-existing attachments, which ultimately led to his downfall. Sabine, being a part of Anakin's Jedi lineage as the student of his own student, now faces a similar predicament.

Sabine's journey in Star Wars Rebels saw her receiving lightsaber combat training from Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus after acquiring the Darksaber. However, in Ahsoka, she modified Ezra Bridger's lightsaber to make it her own. Despite her warrior nature, Sabine showcased a lack of proficiency in lightsaber skills during a confrontation with Baylan Skoll's dark side apprentice, Shin Hati, as depicted in Ahsoka episode 1. Alongside her limited aptitude for the Force compared to previous Padawans, Sabine also faces the challenge of her age, a hurdle unprecedented for any other human Jedi.

Sabine Is The Oldest Person To Become A Jedi Padawan

Upon his first encounter with the Jedi Council, the Masters expressed their reservations in training Anakin Skywalker due to his age, as they believed his emotional attachments, particularly his bond with his mother, would hinder his progress as a Jedi. Anakin, being the oldest human to join the Jedi Order at the time, held this record until it was surpassed by Sabine Wren, who underwent Jedi training under Ahsoka at around 29 years old, making her the oldest human to undertake such a journey.

Other species have longer lifespans, allowing them to commence and conclude their Jedi training much later than humans. In the case of Yoda and Grogu's species, they can live for up to 900 years, so it is not unusual for Grogu to recommence his training with Luke Skywalker when he is approximately 50. On the other hand, Obi-Wan Kenobi, a more traditional Jedi, was brought to the Jedi Temple as an infant, although he did not become Qui-Gon Jinn's apprentice until he was 13. Similarly, Jedi like Ezra Bridger and Luke Skywalker, who were trained during the dark times, also initiated their training during their teenage years, with Ezra beginning at the age of 14 and Luke at 19.

Sabine Is Also The Oldest To Still Be A Padawan

Sabine, being the oldest individual to embark on Jedi training, will also be the oldest to successfully complete it. Obi-Wan Kenobi, who finished his training at the age of 25, was one of the oldest humans to do so. Due to Ahsoka not fully completing Sabine's training, it may take a couple of years before she officially finishes her training, extending her journey into her thirties. With Ahsoka taking charge of Sabine's training once again, it will be some time before she fully grasps the ways of the Jedi. Nonetheless, she possesses the potential to become an exceptional warrior.
