A representative for Steve Buscemi has confirmed that the actor was randomly attacked while walking in New York City on Wednesday, May 8th.

According to a publicist who spoke to People on Sunday, May 12th, the 66-year-old Boardwalk Empire actor was in midtown Manhattan when he "became another victim of a random act of violence in the city."

The outlet reported that Buscemi, who was recently announced as a cast member in season 2 of Netflix’s Wednesday, was punched in the face. The publicist added that Buscemi is now feeling “OK” and is grateful for everyone's well wishes. He is also very sad for those who have experienced similar incidents while walking the streets of New York.

The actor was walking through the Kips Bay neighborhood at 11:58 a.m. when he got hit, according to a police spokesperson who spoke to the New York Post.

After the incident, Buscemi experienced swelling on his face and left eye. He was then brought to Bellevue Hospital in Kips Bay for medical treatment.

The attacker fled the scene after the incident occurred.

A witness shared with the New York Post that she saw Buscemi with a woman before witnessing him trip and fall backwards through the corner of the window.

The witness added that Buscemi quickly stood up and ran in the opposite direction.

According to the police, the attacker, who had a beard, was last spotted wearing a baseball cap, a blue T-shirt, and black sweatpants.

Another actor from Boardwalk Empire recently experienced a troubling event on the streets of New York City. Just a few months ago, Michael Stuhlbarg, known for his role as gangster Arnold Rothstein on the popular HBO show, was attacked by a homeless man near Central Park. This incident left him with a minor abrasion as a result.

According to police reports released on April 1, the actor, Steve Buscemi, age 55, was walking near East 90th and East Drive around 7:45 p.m. when he was hit in the back of the neck with a rock by Xavier Israel, age 27.

Buscemi, known for his role as a New York City firefighter and his acclaimed performance as Enoch “Nucky” Thompson on Boardwalk Empire, received recognition for his work. He won a Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Television Series — Drama in 2011 and was nominated for Emmy awards for Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2011 and 2012. The show aired for five seasons, concluding in October 2014.

Since then, Buscemi won an Emmy in 2016 for his work as a host, director and producer on the web series Park Bench with Steve Buscemi and went on to star in the comedy Miracle Workers.

Editor's P/S:

The recent attack on Steve Buscemi is a disturbing reminder of the escalating violence in New York City. As a resident of the city, I am deeply saddened and concerned by the increasing number of random and senseless acts of aggression. The fact that a well-known and respected actor like Buscemi could be targeted in broad daylight is particularly alarming.

It is imperative that we address the root causes of this violence and work together to create a safer environment for all. We need to invest in mental health services, address economic inequality, and implement effective policing strategies. The safety of our citizens should be a top priority, and we must not allow fear and violence to define our city.
