According to The Sun, Taylor-Johnson was being considered for the role, competing against other top actors like recent Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, and James Norton from Happy Valley.

Just the other week, Taylor-Johnson was interviewed about the rumors of him playing Bond after Craig's departure. He shared his thoughts with Numero, saying, “I'm flattered and grateful that people envision me in that iconic role. It truly means a lot to me.”

Taylor-Johnson, known for his award-winning performance in Nocturnal Animals, will star in The Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt in May. He will also play the title role in Kraven the Hunter in August.

Craig, who debuted as Bond in Casino Royale in 2006, mentioned that he has no regrets about moving on from the franchise.

Craig shared on BBC Radio 4’s “Best of Today” podcast in December 2022 that he had no regrets about his 17-year journey portraying James Bond. He expressed his gratitude for the incredible experience and mentioned his plans to reflect on it in the next 20 years.

In his last film, No Time to Die, James Bond's character seems to meet his demise, allowing the franchise to explore new directions without him, as per Craig's perspective.

I had a chat with Barbara Broccoli, the producer of James Bond, back in 2006. I asked her if we could kill off the character if we do all the movies right. Surprisingly, she agreed. I was considering my career and how it would fit in, but I was also inspired by what they did in Casino Royale.

In Casino Royale, they went back to the beginning and had the opportunity to reset the story. I thought it was a smart move. It gave them a chance to start fresh and I believed it could work again in the future.
