From Star Wars to 007: Rupert Friend Eyes James Bond Role

Star Wars actor Rupert Friend aims to take on the iconic role of James Bond, as he campaigns to become the next 007 Known for his impressive performances in both Homeland and Star Wars, Friend is ready to bring his skills to the world of espionage and action

Rupert Friend, who played the Grand Inquisitor in the Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi and CIA black ops officer Peter Quinn in Homeland, has set his sights on a new role: James Bond. In a recent interview with Variety, Friend revealed that he was approached to audition for the iconic role when he was a young actor, but ultimately turned it down. However, he now believes he has the necessary experience to do the character justice. His co-star Patricia Arquette recently encouraged him to pursue the role, and Friend sees it as a sign from the universe. Check out his comments below:

Recently, I’ve been reflecting on my past experiences and how they’ve prepared me for new challenges. After years of navigating difficult situations on film sets and in life, I feel like I’m at a point where I can take on new opportunities. This realization came to me just last week, and it’s funny that we’re doing this interview now. I even reached out to my manager to share my thoughts with them.

Interestingly enough, a few years ago, my manager had asked me about playing James Bond. At the time, I felt intimidated by the prospect and unsure if I could do the character justice. But now, I feel ready for the challenge. Of course, whether or not I’m actually approached for the role is up in the air, but it’s been encouraging to have colleagues like Patricia Arquette reach out and express their support. It’s as if the universe is giving me a nudge, reminding me that things happen in their own time and to trust the process. Regardless of what happens, I’m grateful for the chance to reflect and grow.

From Star Wars to 007: Rupert Friend Eyes James Bond Role

The selection of the next James Bond is a highly anticipated decision that always proves to be a difficult task. While many may argue that Rupert Friend has already been approached for the role, history has shown that the Bond franchise values second chances and impeccable timing. As the world waits to see who will take on the iconic role after Daniel Craig, the pressure is on to find the perfect fit for the next generation of Bond films.

After Sean Connery resigned during production of You Only Live Twice, Timothy Dalton was approached to replace him for On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. However, echoing his own experience, Dalton turned down the role feeling he was too young. It wasn't until decades later that he took on the mantle of Bond for The Living Daylights. Similarly, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan had previously been offered the role but had to decline due to prior television commitments.

As for who will be the next James Bond, speculation is rampant and there has been no official announcement from producers. With a long list of rumored candidates, it may be challenging for Oyelowo to prove himself as a worthy successor to Craig. However, history has shown that second chances are possible. Perhaps the universe will align to grant Oyelowo the opportunity to become the next 007, as he rightfully deserves.
