Wales captain Aaron Ramsey intends to consult with specialists following a knee injury sustained during training, which is likely to prevent him from participating in their forthcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Expressing his disappointment on Instagram, the 32-year-old described himself as "absolutely devastated" by the injury, especially considering his recent return to guide his childhood team, Cardiff. Ramsey had been an integral part of the club, featuring in six out of their eight Championship matches and netting three goals.
Manager Erol Bulut announced on Thursday that the midfielder is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks. This means he will be unable to participate in Wales' crucial Euro 2024 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Croatia. It is possible that his absence could be prolonged if he requires surgery. "Aaron Ramsey sustained an injury in training two days ago," shared Bulut. "According to the report from our medical department, he will be unavailable for three weeks. The injury affects the tendon in his knee, which is the same knee he had surgery on many years ago. A final examination will determine if it is a rupture or not."
I hope we can welcome him back following the international break. However, we are currently awaiting updates on his condition.
He experienced pain behind his knee while changing direction during a run. Scans have been done, but we are still awaiting the results. It is possible that he may have ruptured a tendon in his right knee. We are hopeful that surgery can be avoided, and we will strive to promote healing without resorting to an operation.
Ramsey expressed his disappointment on social media through an Instagram story to his five million followers. In the post, he wrote, "I'm extremely disappointed to announce that I sustained an injury during training last week. I will be consulting with specialists to determine the best course of action. My main focus is on returning to the team as soon as possible to contribute."
