9-1-1 fans have been excitedly rooting for Buck and Eddie since the beginning of the show, and they are not alone in their enthusiasm. The actors themselves are also on board.
Oliver Stark, who plays Evan “Buck” Buckley on the ABC drama, expressed his openness to the idea during an episode of the Zach Sang Show on Friday, April 19. He acknowledged the chemistry between the characters and hinted at the possibility of their relationship evolving on screen.
Stark’s Buck has been a firefighting staple since season 1 of 9-1-1. Eddie Diaz (played by Ryan Guzman) joined the Station 118 crew the following season, quickly striking up a friendship with Buck. While their bond has always been platonic thus far, many fans sense a deeper chemistry.
Buck recently came out during season 7 after having his first same-sex kiss with LAFD helicopter pilot Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.). While Buck and Tommy’s romance is currently playing out on 9-1-1, Stark, 32, was asked on Friday about his hopes for a potential future Buck-Eddie relationship.
Stark mentioned that the situation works both ways and could make for an interesting story. He's uncertain about the direction of Eddie's character and emphasizes the importance of handling the storyline delicately. He doesn't want to portray a scenario where a man comes out and his male friends tease him about having a crush on them. It's crucial to approach this narrative with caution to avoid reinforcing harmful stereotypes.

Despite treading carefully, Stark is still leaving the door open for Buck and Eddie to get together.
He mentioned that people often ask him if something will happen, rather than if he wants it to happen. When they inquire if it is going to happen, he admits he doesn't know because he doesn't write the show. As for whether he wants it to happen, he remains unsure. He is open to it if showrunner Tim decides it's the best way to continue the story.
On the other hand, Guzman revealed that Buck's coming out journey has deepened his connection with Eddie, making their bond stronger than ever.
"I believe the main objective was to demonstrate that the bond between Buck and Eddie is strong," shared Guzman, 37, in a recent interview with Us. "We have seen a vulnerable side of Buck now, and in the previous season, we saw a vulnerable side of Eddie. This has made their connection even stronger and more meaningful."
You can catch 9-1-1 on ABC on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
