9-1-1 season 7 may be shorter than usual, but it's definitely making a big impact.
"I think the fans might feel a bit sad," said Oliver Stark, who portrays firefighter Evan "Buck" Buckley, in an interview with Access Hollywood on Tuesday, May 23, about the upcoming season finale. "I really hope we can meet their expectations."
Fans will have to wait until Thursday, May 30 to see the season 7 finale. But before that, the episode right before it, called “Ashes, Ashes,” caused quite a stir with its own dose of drama and chaos.

The episode on Thursday, May 23, kicks off with the 118 team receiving the Medal of Valor for their heroic work on a cruise ship rescue. However, things take a sudden turn for Hen and Karen when they find out their foster license has been revoked.
Meanwhile, Eddie finds himself getting more involved emotionally with Kim as he continues to struggle with the loss of his late wife Shannon.
In the final moments of the episode, Bobby finally opens up to Athena about his past struggles and his initial thoughts of committing suicide after a heroic act as a firefighter. Despite announcing his plans to retire, Athena tries to convince Bobby to reconsider. Unfortunately, a house fire puts both of their lives at risk before they can come to a resolution.

Hen and Karen’s Adoption Nightmare
After making progress with their foster daughter Mara, Hen and Karen are shocked when their adoption hearing is suddenly canceled. It turns out that a local councilwoman, whose son Hen was unable to save during a call with the 118, is behind the cancellation.
When Hen confronts the councilwoman, she reveals that she has been looking into Hen's past as a firefighter and believes she is not suitable to adopt Mara. As a result, Hen and Karen's foster license is revoked, and Mara is taken away by CPS, crying and screaming as she is removed from their home.

In Episode 9, we see Eddie reconnecting with Kim, a storeowner who bears a striking resemblance to his late wife. Despite spending time together, Eddie and Kim have not progressed their relationship further.
Eddie is trying to keep his new friend a secret from the rest of the 118, while Kim visits the firehouse to bring brownies for the crew. Buck (Stark) is surprised by how much Kim looks like Shannon when he sees her there.
Without delay, Buck goes to Eddie and asks him about his relationship with Kim. Eddie admits that he is unsure about his feelings for her, and the conversation ends with Buck expressing his concerns for his best friend.
Eddie responds, "I'm also worried about myself."
Feeling guilty about the potential hurt he may cause, Eddie confesses to Kim that she looks just like Shannon. He admits that he does have feelings for her, but also acknowledges that he has been spending time with her in the hopes of Shannon coming back. Despite this confession, they part ways on good terms. However, the next day, Kim unexpectedly shows up at Eddie's house dressed as Shannon, urging him to speak his mind.

Eddie hesitated at first, but he eventually opens up to Kim (who he is pretending is Shannon, are you following?) about his anger over her leaving him after he returned from Afghanistan. He wonders why their son, Christopher (Gavin McHugh), received a note explaining her absence but he did not. Eddie also admits that he feels lost without her.
After their emotional conversation, Eddie and Kim share a hug. However, their moment is interrupted when Eddie's girlfriend, Marisol (Edy Ganem), and Christopher walk in and see them embracing.

Still shocked from meeting Amir, the man who lost his family in the fire Bobby caused in Minnesota, Captain Nash decides to retire, surprising Athena. She tries to get Bobby to open up by inviting Amir for coffee at their house. Although Amir agrees at first, he later feels overwhelmed and asks Bobby to stay away.
Meanwhile, Bobby secretly trains the rest of the 118 to take over his role, guiding them on calls, teaching them his recipes, and having personal conversations with each of them. By the end of the episode, Bobby confesses to Athena that he originally planned to commit suicide after saving 148 people, the same number who died in the fire, saying, "I'm not supposed to be here."
In the last moments of the episode, Bobby daydreams about his dad who struggles with alcohol. Suddenly, he snaps back to reality to find his house in flames and Athena unconscious in their bedroom. Bobby saves her and makes sure she is safe. Then, he clutches his chest and collapses before the screen fades to black.

Is ANYONE Doing OK?
Maddie and Chimney emerge from episode 9 without any major harm, enjoying their time as newlyweds. Buck is also doing well, as his relationship with Tommy grows stronger and he continues to excel at the firehouse.
However, the entire 9-1-1 team will feel the impact of Bobby and Athena being in danger. Even if Bobby survives, his retirement will greatly affect the rest of the firehouse. Buck is also concerned about his best friend, Eddie, who is clearly struggling with grief.
