10 Most Exciting Upcoming DCU Storylines We Can’t Wait To See Happen

As the DC Universe slowly comes into focus, there are plenty of upcoming storylines well worth already getting excited about. With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom officially ending the DCEU, all eyes look forward to the new DCU, helmed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. While much is yet to be revealed about the new shared universe, enough is known about DC's upcoming movies to tease several exciting characters and stories.

Joker: Folie a Deux - A Musical Romance Between Joker And Harley

Joker: Folie \/ Deux will also find Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn. Joaquin Phoenix’s take on the Joker was grounded in realism with an unexpectedly empathy-inducing commentary on troubled mental health. While Todd Phillip directed Joker as a gritty neo-noir character piece, the sequel will play out as a musical. The cast of Joker: Folie \/ Deux is again eyebrow-raising, with Lady Gaga playing the Joker’s tragic lover and partner in crime, Harley Quinn. With at least part of the premise unfurling in Arkham, it’s apparent that Arthur Fleck couldn’t escape the facility at the end of the first movie. With the French subtitle translating to “madness for two,” it’ll be interesting to see how Phillips subverts the Joker and Harley’s controversial romance.

The Brave and the Bold - Batman Raising A Child

Damian Wayne will make his DCU debut with The Brave and the Bold. One of the most anticipated titles in the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters is The Brave and the Bold, a father-son tale between Batman and his son Damian Wayne. Kickstarting the Bat Family in this new DC Universe, The Brave and the Bold will finally offer a live-action Batman the opportunity to act as a father. All previous Batman movies have touched upon how the death of his parents shaped the Caped Crusader’s outlook on life. While fighting crime alongside his own son, audiences might get an emotional glimpse at Batman like never before. Damian Wayne's mother is Talia al Ghul, who appeared in The Dark Knight Rises, played by Marion Cotillard.

Lanterns - A Green Lantern Mystery

Green Lantern Corps meets True Detective in Lanterns. The DCU also includes TV shows like the upcoming Lanterns. The reason why Lanterns isn’t called Green Lanterns might imply that the DCU is ready to branch out beyond just the Green Lantern Corps and incorporate many other corps on the Emotional Spectrum. Hoping to undo the wrongs of the universally-panned Green Lantern movie, Lanterns promises to be an investigative thriller at its core, with James Gunn drawing comparisons with True Detective. With iconic Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart taking the lead, DC fans may get a detective duo comparable to the unforgettable characters played by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the HBO anthology’s first season.
