Despite having many Zonai devices at their disposal, a player's attempt to build a large rocket in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ended in failure. In this game, players can start building vehicles and contraptions as soon as they acquire Link's new abilities on the Great Sky Island.
After completing four shrines on the Great Sky Island, Link gains the Ultrahand, Fuse, Ascend, and Recall abilities in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. With the help of his new arm, players can easily switch between these abilities while exploring Hyrule. One of the most frequently used abilities is the Ultrahand, which allows players to grab items from a distance and solve puzzles involving objects that Link cannot pick up with his hands. Additionally, the Ultrahand comes in handy for propping up Hudson Construction signs across Hyrule. Moreover, players can use the Ultrahand to create vehicles and navigate Hyrule much faster than on foot.
In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, player SloaneDoodle attempted to create a pilotable rocket using smaller Zonai rockets and time bombs. However, the rocket quickly fell apart and exploded when the steering stick was activated. SloaneDoodle assembled several time bombs to form a wide platform, and attached six Zonai rockets to the bombs in an attempt to enable flight. Sadly, the inadvertent use of the steering stick activated both the rockets and time bombs, resulting in an explosion that sent Link crashing down from the sky island.
It appears that SloaneDoodle's goal was to launch the rocket and propel Link upward towards another sky island or point of interest in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, the positioning of the rocket burners directly onto the bombs prevented the makeshift rocket from taking off. Under normal circumstances, Zonai rockets would ignite and rapidly ascend if the rocket burners were fully exposed or facing the ground.
SloaneDoodle's attempted rocket build didn't go as planned, but it could spark new ideas for incorporating rockets and bombs into Ultrahand contraptions in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. These items can be used to create fireworks and some players have discovered they can boost flight speed for gliders and makeshift aircraft.
Nintendo recently addressed another duplication glitch in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with their 1.2.0 update. It's possible that the developers are working on additional bug fixes and adjustments, and it remains to be seen if Zonai device-based Ultrahand builds will be affected in the future. However, Nintendo seems to be prioritizing efforts to fix exploits and duplication glitches at the moment.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now for Nintendo Switch.
