Zac Efron admits that he has neglected to focus on his personal life while being caught up in his work. He now wants to prioritize building a home base and cultivating his personal life. In an interview with Variety published on Thursday, December 14, the 36-year-old actor expressed his desire to reassess his priorities and make time for personal matters.

Efron is uncertain about where he wants to settle down for himself, despite knowing he can always find his family in California. His early upbringing in the industry led him to prioritize his career aspirations over other aspects of his life. "The goal is always the next mission, the next movie, making sure everyone else is very happy. It can be very lonely at times," he admitted. "But facing my emotions head-on and working with them has been a profound moment in my life, leading me down a different road."

While working on his various projects, including his latest role in The Iron Claw, the actor referred to himself as a "perfectionist." Efron expressed how his intense dedication to his portrayal of wrestler Kevin Von Erich led to an all-consuming obsession with perfection. He described the singular focus and sacrifice of months of preparation, noting that his personal life was put on hold during this time.

As Efron ages, he recognizes the brevity of life and the unattainability of perfection. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining connections with friends and loved ones. Efron regrets not spending more time with the late Matthew Perry, expressing a desire to have nurtured their friendship and shared more stories. He holds their time together close to his heart and thinks about him daily.

Efron and Perry collaborated on the 2009 film 17 Again, with Efron portraying a younger version of Perry’s character. In November, Perry’s friend Athenna Crosby disclosed to Entertainment Tonight that the Friends star expressed interest in having Efron play a younger version of him once again in a potential biopic.

In a separate interview, Efron revealed that he would love to portray his friend one more time.

“To think he was thinking of me for that role, I mean I would be honored to do it, to be honest,” he confessed to ET, noting that Perry was “the best guy in the world.”
