In Spy x Family season 2 episode 8, The Symphony Upon the Ship/Sis' Herbal Tea, Yor leads Zeb, Olka, and her son Gram to the rendezvous point on the ship's roof. The fireworks startle Gram and a sniper targets Yor, but Matthew McMahon arrives to help, taking down the sniper and the other assassins. Yor has Olka's group hide down a hatch, but an assassin shoots at them. Zeb, wearing armor, rescues Olka and her son and they go down the hatch.

As a result, Yor was able to go full throttle and take down every assassin one after the other. Meanwhile, McMahon initiated the cleanup procedure to handle the overwhelming number of people. At the same time, Anya successfully persuaded her father to pick her up, allowing her to enjoy the fireworks show.

The scene then cut back to the rooftop, where the Assassin Leader was left speechless by the exceptional skill of the Garden assassins. He commended Yor, referring to her as a heartless woman for the numerous lives she had taken. However, Yor remained unfazed, firm in her belief that anyone who chose to wield a weapon and take a life should be prepared to face the consequences, including herself.

As the leader continued the conversation, a Swordsman assassin suddenly attacked both Yor and Matthew. Although they managed to avoid the attack, Matthew was left unconscious after being struck in the chest by the assassin. This forced Yor to fight the Swordsman alone. However, much like her encounter with Barnaby, Yor was hesitant to engage in combat, fearing the potential consequences for her life with Loid and Anya.

The Assassin Leader took notice of this and offered Yor a share of the money in exchange for joining them. Yor immediately declined, believing herself to be different from the other assassins. However, upon further reflection, she realized that she was not so different after all, as she too was motivated by the prospect of monetary gain.

This led Yor to reflect on the original reason for her career as an assassin. Initially, she had taken on that role to support Yuri. However, when her brother secured a good job, she no longer felt the need to continue her work. In addition, she found much greater happiness and fulfillment in her new life as a Forger. This realization ultimately prompted Yor to make the decision to leave her job as an assassin.

Astoundingly, it was at that moment that she recalled the true reason she had accepted the new job - to safeguard the peace of Olka and her son. This brought to mind her initial motivation for becoming an assassin, which was to protect Yuri's smile and preserve his world's tranquility. With Loid and Anya becoming integral parts of her life, her determination had only grown stronger. She was so committed to her mission that she was prepared to risk her life as a Forger to see it through. And so, she continued to confront the Swordsman.

The episode also featured an adaptation of a short story in which Yuri Briar falls ill during a mission, specifically when he is separated from Yor. His Lieutenant takes care of him and goes out to buy herbal tea for him. This experience causes Yuri to reflect on how Yor used to care for him in the past, and he resolves to become strong so that his sister no longer has to risk her life to help him.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I have mixed feelings about Yor's determination as an assassin surpassing her life with Loid and Anya in Spy x Family season 2 episode 8. On the one hand, I admire her dedication to her job and her willingness to risk her own life to protect Olka and her son. On the other hand, I worry that her commitment to her work will eventually come at the expense of her happiness with Loid and Anya.

I think it's important for Yor to remember that she is more than just an assassin. She is also a wife and a mother, and she has a responsibility to her family. I hope that in future episodes, Yor will be able to find a way to balance her work and her personal life, so that she can have the best of both worlds.
