Witchfire: A Challenging First-Person-Shooter Rogue-lite That Calls for Strategy and Adaptability

Witchfire, developed by indie studio the Astronauts, boasts an exhilarating and demanding gameplay experience. With its high level of difficulty, players may find themselves initially frustrated. This unique title challenges the norms typically found in other first-person-shooter games, requiring players to adjust their strategies accordingly. To excel in Witchfire and truly enjoy each playthrough, a few useful tips can make all the difference.

Treat Witchfire Like the Rogue-Lite It Is

Before starting, players must understand that the Preyer cannot entirely clear out the Scarlet Coast on their first visit. It is advisable to gather herbs, engage in combat using Witchfire, and collect other necessary items before returning home through one of the available portals. If players act swiftly, they can obtain essential items and make use of the same portal they entered from. Remember, this entrance portal will close after approximately five minutes of real time. As the portal nears its closure, a warning message will appear on the screen stating that the Preyer can "barely sense the way back home."

Witchfire Potions and Healing: Collect Herbs and Know Mushrooms

Players can interact with various plants found on the maps in Witchfire. These include Angelica herbs and a variety of mushrooms. The collected Angelica herbs can be brought back to the Apothecary in the hub world to create healing elixirs. On the other hand, mushrooms cannot be picked up but can be consumed immediately. In Witchfire, there are six types of mushrooms, three of which are healing mushrooms and the remaining three are poisonous. It is crucial for players to learn to distinguish the poisonous mushrooms from the rest in order to avoid any negative effects in this indie game.

Keep Tabs on Enemies in Witchfire: Watch Your Mini Map

Not only will the mini-map provide players with a sense of the proximity of individual enemies, but it will also distinguish between regular enemies and elites. Elites and Wardens will be depicted as distinct and larger icons on the mini-map, allowing players to anticipate the challenges they pose. Additionally, the mini-map will display the precise locations of nearby Dangerous Items, ammunition chests, and treasure chests.

Keep Unbindable Items in Witchfire: Recover Your Body

Various types of items are found in the inventory. While some of these items are connected to the Preyer and will be preserved, others will be lost upon the player's death on the map. To retain items, they must be bound to the Preyer, who will return to the hub via a portal. When an item is successfully bound, it will be transferred to the Bound menu. Examples of bindable items include Witchfire crystals. If an item cannot be bound and the Preyer perishes, players must return to retrieve their bodies. These locations will be indicated on the map by a tombstone icon, but they will not be displayed on the mini map.

Only Level When You Need To in Witchfire

The most crucial lesson for new players in Witchfire is to avoid leveling up unnecessarily. Each level upgrade at the Ascension altar in the hub world will significantly increase the difficulty of the maps.

Instead, prioritize leveling weapons and discovering new spells. Players should promptly return to the hub and collect each completed research item. It is important to keep a close record of the weapons that need leveling and do so promptly at the armory station.

Witchfire is in Early Access for PC.
