The Wisconsin attorney general has filed charges against three allies of Donald Trump. They are accused of being involved in a scheme to present a fake slate of electors and overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. This information comes from online court records.
The individuals facing charges are Kenneth Chesebro, a right-wing attorney who played a role in planning the fake elector scheme; Jim Troupis, a former lawyer for Trump; and Michael Roman, a former official of the Trump campaign. Each of them is charged with forgery.
Wisconsin is the most recent state to file charges against individuals linked to the ex-president who tried to overturn the election. State prosecutors in Michigan, Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia have also charged several of Trump's supporters.
Chesebro's lawyer chose not to make a statement. CNN has contacted Troupis and Roman's attorneys for their comments.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers responded with just one word to the charges on Tuesday: "Good."
It was reported by CNN earlier that Chesebro had been assisting investigators in several states, including Wisconsin, in their investigation of the fake electors scheme. Chesebro's legal team had been hopeful that his cooperation would prevent him from facing charges.
Last year, the 10 fake electors from Wisconsin decided to abandon their efforts to overturn Trump's loss in 2020. They accepted President Joe Biden's win as legitimate and promised not to participate as real electors in 2024 or any election with Trump on the ballot. They also agreed not to act as fake electors in any future election. This was part of a settlement in a civil lawsuit.
The 10 fake electors admitted that the false certificates they signed in December 2020 were used in an attempt to unlawfully overturn the election results.
"We want to make it clear that Joseph R. Biden, Jr. is the rightful winner of the 2020 presidential election. We were not the official presidential electors for Wisconsin in 2020," stated a portion of their message. "We are against any efforts to shake the public's trust in the final outcome of the 2020 presidential election."

Editor's P/S:
The recent charges against three Trump allies in Wisconsin for their involvement in the fake elector scheme are a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The charges indicate that prosecutors are actively pursuing individuals who played a role in this attempt to subvert the democratic process. It is important to hold those accountable who engaged in such actions, as it is crucial to protect the integrity of our electoral system.
The fact that Chesebro had been assisting investigators in other states while facing charges in Wisconsin highlights the complex nature of this case. It remains to be seen whether his cooperation will result in leniency or if he will face the full extent of the law. The outcome of this case will likely have implications for other ongoing investigations into the fake elector scheme, as it may set a precedent for how individuals who participated in these efforts will be treated.
