Winamp Announces Availability for iPhone and Android Users

In early 2023, a brand new version of Winamp emerged after a prolonged period of silence. The classic version remains accessible, alongside the original iteration of its latest service at player.winamp.com, catering to both desktop and mobile browsers. Eventually, in April, Winamp Mobile made its debut, albeit in beta form, and is currently undergoing active development.

This week, Winamp published a press release announcing that its Creators platform has now surpassed 17,000 artists. This platform serves as a similar concept to Patreon, enabling fans to support artists and subscribe to their music. With this development, artists have gained full control over the distribution and monetization of their work. Although a significant portion of these songs were sourced from Jamendo, a platform owned by Winamp's parent company, it signifies a positive trend.

Winamp aims to onboard nearly 100,000 artists by the end of 2024, as stated by the company. However, in the short term, they plan to introduce NFT functionality to the platform within the next two months. Additionally, Winamp mobile will finally be released to the public.

According to the press release, the final versions of Winamp Player for mobile are scheduled to be released by the end of 2023. However, the specific features that will be included in these versions are uncertain. It is unclear whether they will support playback of local media files alongside streaming from creators, NFT integration, or any other additional features.
