Will Hope and Muriel maintain their friendship in Virgin River now that the past is behind them?

Will Hope and Muriel stay friends in Virgin River?

Though nothing is confirmed for Virgin River Season 6, one fan has a theory explaining why Hope and Muriel’s friendship could be likely to unravel.

Redditor Easy-Cup6142 posted that the most unrealistic plot point, in their opinion, is that Hope and Muriel are still friends.

According to the post, Muriel actively pursued Hope’s husband, went on dates with him, dressed very provocatively, and even threw herself at Doc, all while the post author felt that they surely had at least one opportunity to sleep together. In their opinion, the fact that they didn't is ridiculously unrealistic given the context and their dynamic.

The women in the ladies’ group talk about it like they're back in middle school. But after Hope and Doc reconcile, everything seems to be okay for Doc and Muriel to spend time alone together again, and Muriel is genuinely concerned for and taking care of Hope?

“I disagree. It’s about emotional intelligence,” another Redditor argued. “Something that develops over the years. Then there’s trust – which Doc established with Hope when he didn’t sleep with Muriel, despite the temptation. And they all live in a small town with the same group of friends. They've made amends. Life moves on.”

“Muriel's character has really grown on me this season and I enjoy watching her romance with the new doctor. On the other hand, I still find Hope annoying. I wonder what the doctor sees in her, considering his devotion to her,” a third person added, while a fourth commented, “Are we forgetting that Hope was actually the one pushing them together to hide her own relationship with the doctor?”

“If I were Muriel, I would be angry, really angry at both Doc and Hope. I do love them both, but they really manipulated Muriel. Hope came up with a terrible idea and Doc didn't say ‘No.’ However, I'm glad that she met Cam and fell in love with him. She is far too sexy and youthful for the old bully Vernon Mullins,” one Redditor summarized.

As a Gen Z netizen, I find the drama surrounding Hope and Muriel's friendship in Virgin River to be both intriguing and frustrating. On the one hand, I understand the complexities of their situation and the challenges they face in maintaining their friendship after everything that has happened. Muriel's pursuit of Doc, despite her knowledge of Hope's feelings for him, was certainly a betrayal of their friendship. However, I also believe that people are capable of growth and change, and it's possible that Muriel has genuinely come to regret her actions and is committed to rebuilding her friendship with Hope.

On the other hand, I find it difficult to fully accept the idea that Hope and Muriel can simply move on from the past and pretend like nothing happened. The level of betrayal that Muriel inflicted on Hope was significant, and it's hard to imagine that Hope could ever truly forget or forgive her for it. Additionally, the fact that Doc and Muriel continue to spend time alone together, despite the history between them, seems like a recipe for disaster. Overall, I think the writers of Virgin River have a challenging task ahead of them in trying to navigate the complexities of Hope and Muriel's friendship and make it believable to the audience.
