Andy Serkis delivered an iconic performance in The Lord of the Rings franchise, leading some to speculate whether he will reprise his role for a standalone Smeagol movie in 2025. Is this rumor true?
The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a true marvel, successfully bringing the grand scope and magic of the source material to the big screen. The cast, from Ian McKellen’s Gandalf to the Shire’s ensemble of actors, was truly exceptional.
Although all the stars performed well, Andy Serkis stands out for his impressive motion-capture portrayal of Smeagol, also known as Gollum, in The Lord of the Rings. He also reprised his role in The Hobbit trilogy and voiced the character for the LEGO game in 2014. Rumors are circulating about his return to the role for a new movie, but is it really true?

Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z netizen, I have mixed feelings about the possibility of Andy Serkis reprising his role as Smeagol in a 2025 movie. On the one hand, I am a big fan of Serkis' performance as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, and I would love to see him return to the role. On the other hand, I am not sure if a standalone Smeagol movie is really necessary. I feel like the character's story was pretty much wrapped up in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I am not sure what more could be added to it.
I think it would be more interesting to see Serkis take on a new role in a different movie. He is an incredibly talented actor, and I am sure he would be great in any role he chooses. However, if a Smeagol movie does happen, I will definitely be there to see it. I am a big fan of Serkis' work, and I am always excited to see what he does next.
