Recent rumors suggest that Square Enix is considering remaking two other titles in the Final Fantasy franchise, namely Final Fantasy 9 and Final Fantasy 10. Although a trusted source, Im A Hero Too's account has since been deleted. If Final Fantasy 10 is to be remade, it may not happen until 2026. Giving proper remakes to some of the franchise's classic and beloved titles has proven to be a surefire win, as demonstrated by the popularity and quality of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth. However, remaking Final Fantasy 10 may require a different approach. If Square Enix chooses to remake the first title, it may as well consider remaking the second and even moving forward with a Final Fantasy X-3, which has been on hold for some time.
Hope is Alive for Final Fantasy X-3
Square Enix should consider creating a cohesive remake trilogy for both Final Fantasy 10 games, as it would be strange to only remake the first without the second. Following the model of the Final Fantasy 7 remake, Final Fantasy 10's trilogy could end with a brand new game - Final Fantasy X-3. This idea is not far-fetched, as Square Enix designers Tetsuya Nomura and Motomu Toriyama have already discussed the possibility of its release in summer 2021. While a random third installment may seem out of place, ending a remake trilogy with a new game makes perfect sense. In fact, the plot for Final Fantasy X-3 already exists, with a synopsis written by Nojima-san, according to Nomura.
Toriyama hinted that the possibility of a Final Fantasy 10 Remake may exist but mentioned that they cannot discuss it until after the completion of FF7 Remake. If the idea is pursued, a potential timeline could include a release in 2026, followed by remakes of Final Fantasy 10-2 and ultimately concluding with Final Fantasy 10-3, which would finally bring this long-awaited story to a proper close. However, it should be noted that Square Enix has not officially confirmed the production of a Final Fantasy 10 Remake at this time.
