Demon Slayer season 4's teaser trailer was finally revealed on Sunday, December 10, 2023. The anime also announced that the upcoming season would be released in Spring 2024. However, the Promotion Reel 2024 hinted at an unexpected story development involving Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka. The teaser provided glimpses of the remaining Hashira, including former Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui, but suspiciously did not show Giyu Tomioka's face. Instead, it depicted him walking away from an unseen figure, leaving fans to wonder what sets him apart from the other Hashira in Demon Slayer season 4.

How will Demon Slayer season 4 focus on Giyu Tomioka?
The latest teaser featuring Giyu Tomioka has left fans questioning his role in Demon Slayer season 4. While the upcoming anime will cover the Hashira Training arc, it appears that Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka may have a unique storyline. This speculation is based on the fact that his face was notably absent from the Promotion Reel 2024.
The truth is that Giyu Tomiko does not believe he is worthy of being called the Water Hashira. According to the manga, the Hashira Training arc (Demon Slayer season 4) will feature the Hashira training the Demon Slayer Corps to reach their level of strength. However, Giyu Tomioka declined to participate.

In Demon Slayer chapter 130, Kamado Tanjiro encounters Giyu Tomioka. It becomes clear during their conversation that the Water Hashira is upset with Tanjiro. When asked, Giyu admits his frustration with Tanjiro for choosing to master Hinokami Kagura instead of focusing on Water Breathing.
Although it may seem like Giyu sees Tanjiro as a "master and prodigy," he actually wants Tanjiro to prioritize mastering Water Breathing and take on the role of Water Hashira. According to Giyu, there is currently no Water Hashira in the Demon Slayer Corps, and the position needs to be filled quickly. He walks away from Tanjiro, refusing to elaborate further.

Perplexed, Tanjiro pursued the Water Hashira for more information, while Tomioka waited four days before addressing his inner turmoil. He confessed that he had never successfully completed the final selection at the mountain adorned with wisteria flowers.
Giyu disclosed that he had entered the exam accompanied by a boy his age named Sabito, who had vanquished almost all the demons on the mountain. Regrettably, Sabito perished by the conclusion of the exam, resulting in Giyu's failure. Meanwhile, Tomioka sustained injuries from the very first demon he encountered. He was subsequently rescued by Sabito and ultimately managed to survive and pass the final selection without having to defeat a single demon.

Giyu believed he didn't deserve to be a Hashira because he hadn't defeated any demons and had been saved by someone else. This made him feel unworthy of standing with his peers and becoming the Water Hashira. As a result, Giyu's unique appearance in the Promotion Reel 2024 hints at him being singled out in Demon Slayer season 4.
Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z fan of Demon Slayer, I am thrilled about the upcoming season 4 and intrigued by the mystery surrounding Giyu Tomioka's concealed face in the trailer. The fact that he is the only Hashira whose face is not shown suggests that he will play a significant role in the upcoming season. I am eager to learn more about his character development and understand why he feels unworthy of being the Water Hashira.
The revelation that Giyu Tomioka never successfully completed the final selection and was saved by Sabito adds depth to his character. It explains his self-doubt and why he feels he doesn't deserve to be a Hashira. I can relate to his feelings of inadequacy and the pressure to live up to expectations. Giyu's journey of self-discovery and acceptance will likely be a central theme in season 4, and I am excited to see how it unfolds.
