Michael Keaton captivated viewers with his portrayal of the charming and mischievous spirit in the popular 1988 supernatural comedy Beetlejuice. The film not only achieved both commercial and critical acclaim but also served as Winona Ryder's breakthrough performance as Lydia Deetz. The narrative revolves around a goth teenager who uncovers her ability to communicate with the deceased residents of her newly acquired house in Connecticut, portrayed by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as Adam and Barbara Maitland.
In order to persuade Lydia and her family to leave their home, the Maitlands seek assistance from Keaton’s Betelgeuse to haunt the Deetzes. This leads to a series of comedic events, culminating in an exorcism, a wedding, and a memorable dance scene set to Harry Belafonte's "Banana Boat (Day-O)".
Directed by Tim Burton, the film was later transformed into a Broadway musical in 2019. After years of speculation about a sequel, Warner Bros. officially announced in May 2023 that Beetlejuice 2 is in development. Keaton and Ryder will reprise their roles, with Jenna Ortega joining as Lydia's daughter.
