Despite its box office success, Five Nights at Freddy's falls short in terms of the critical acclaim garnered by Suitable Flesh.
Five Nights at Freddy's, the movie adaptation of the popular video game franchise, has achieved tremendous success at the box office, setting multiple records for Blumhouse Productions. However, it has not fared well with critics, receiving a disappointing 29% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In contrast, Suitable Flesh, another horror movie released on the same day as Freddy's, has garnered much higher praise on Rotten Tomatoes. With an impressive 83% rating based on 58 different reviews, it has achieved the prestigious title of "Certified Fresh." This critical acclaim surpasses what Five Nights at Freddy's has been able to achieve.
Suitable Flesh Assembles a Dream Team of Horror Movie Veterans
The Five Nights at Freddy's movie is based on a popular video game IP and has gained significant popularity in recent years. In contrast, Suitable Flesh takes a more traditional approach. The movie focuses on a psychiatrist's intense relationship with a patient who is afflicted by a supernatural curse, drawing its inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft's 1937 short story "The Thing on the Doorstep." To capture this classic feel, the movie has gathered a team of experienced horror professionals, both in front of and behind the camera.
One of the lead actors in the movie is Barbara Crampton, who has extensive experience in H.P. Lovecraft-themed horror movies like Re-Animator, From Beyond, and Castle Freak. Additionally, the cast includes several other well-known horror veterans such as Judah Lewis from The Babysitter, Bruce Davison from Willard, and Johnathon Schaech from Prom Night and Quarantine. All of these actors are brought together by director Joe Lynch, acclaimed for his horror projects like Wrong Turn 2: Dead End and Holliston, among others.
In comparison, the cast of Five Nights at Freddy's features Scream veteran Matthew Lillard and You star Elizabeth Lail in prominent roles, but Suitable Flesh is primarily aimed at appealing to fans of classic horror. This could be one of the reasons why the movie has received more positive reviews from critics. It remains to be seen how it will perform during its limited theatrical release, but its high Certified Fresh score has the potential to boost its prospects as Halloween approaches.

Editor's P/S
As a fan of horror movies, I am always excited to see new releases, especially when they are based on popular video games. Five Nights at Freddy's is a beloved franchise with a large and dedicated following, so I was eagerly anticipating the movie adaptation. Unfortunately, it seems that the film has not lived up to expectations, with critics giving it a disappointing 29% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In contrast, Suitable Flesh, another horror movie released on the same day, has received much higher praise, with an impressive 83% score. This suggests that critics found Suitable Flesh to be a more well-made and enjoyable film than Five Nights at Freddy's. While I am disappointed that the Five Nights at Freddy's movie did not fare better, I am glad that there are still plenty of other great horror movies out there to enjoy. I look forward to checking out Suitable Flesh and seeing what other scares await me this Halloween season.
