Wednesday undoubtedly took the world by storm when it first premiered on Netflix nearly two years ago. The series followed the titular Wednesday Addams as she looked to solve a decades long mystery at her unconventional boarding school. Season 1 quickly became one of the site’s most watched shows, which quickly spawned a Season 2 announcement, and now the show’s star Jenna Ortega has updated fans on what they can expect in the show’s second outing.

While chatting with Laverne Cox for E! on the Emmys red carpet, Ortega gave Wednesday fans a bit of insight on what they can expect for Season 2. 'I’ve received some scripts now for the second season, and we’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror,' Ortega explained, 'It’s really, really exciting because all throughout the show [Wednesday] never really changes and that’s what’s wonderful about her.' 'There’s some really good one-liners and I think everything is bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. I think each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.'

Season 2 Expectations

Wednesday Season 1 definitely had a bit of horror element sprinkled within it as the show’s main plot revolved around a monstrous creature who murdered people left, right, and center.

And, while the show had no problem showing the killings in some capacities, it definitely left some of its scarier elements out as the story focused more on Wednesday’s interactions with her peers and several love interests.

Ortega herself has been outspoken when it comes to the show’s love triangle as she told Elle Fanning during their Variety Actors on Actors conversation that Season 2 will be 'ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday' in favor of leaning more into the horror genre.

The Lighthearted Approach

But Wednesday fans can rest easy knowing the show won’t be taking itself too seriously as Ortega has stated that Season 2 will continue the show’s trend of being 'lighthearted' as its ' a show with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, [so] you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.'
