Celebrities, just like regular people, can also be targeted by email scammers.
During an episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast on Thursday, February 29, actor Jamie Dornan shared a story about Warren Beatty almost falling for a scam where someone pretended to be Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne. Dornan, 41, revealed that they all received emails from the scammer claiming to be Eddie and asking for money.
Dornan mentioned that out of all of Redmayne’s email contacts, the only person to respond to the message was Beatty, who is 86 years old. He joked about the situation, saying, “I think I’m OK to tell this,” and added, “We all just got individual emails saying, ‘Guys, I need you to wire me some cash,’ and fair credit, Warren Beatty was like, ‘Whatever you need.’”
Although Dornan did not specify the exact timing of the email scam, he mentioned that it happened “just before [Warren] read out the wrong name at the Academy Awards.” Beatty and his Bonnie and Clyde costar Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced La La Land as the Best Picture winner at the 2017 Oscars before it was corrected that Moonlight was the actual winner by a crew member.
Dornan and Redmayne have been friends since their early days in Los Angeles when they were roommates. They also hung out with other British actors like Andrew Garfield, Robert Pattinson, and Charlie Cox before they became famous.
According to Dornan, he and Redmayne lived together, but Garfield and Pattinson were always around, as well as Charlie Cox. He mentioned in an interview with SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show in January 2022 that they were all pretty messy back then.
"We never saw each other as rivals. Even though we often went for the same opportunities, we were fine with that and things worked out for each of us in our own unique way," he explained. "They are all amazing guys and talented actors, and it's great how things worked out for all of us in the end."

Pattinson, who is 37 years old, shared with Entertainment Tonight in March 2022 that he sometimes felt excluded from the group's social gatherings. He mentioned feeling like the "last one invited", recalling instances where he would arrive late and find only one slice of pizza left, wondering if there was any left for him.
Dornan later explained to ET that he and the other guys hung out more frequently because Pattinson had achieved success earlier than them. He mentioned that while they were not working, Pattinson was constantly busy with his projects, especially after his role in Twilight propelled him to a different level of fame.
In another instance, Redmayne shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he once didn't recognize Pattinson at the gym. This happened while they were both filming Fantastic Beasts and The Batman at the same studio.
I walked into the room and saw a guy who greeted me with a 'Hi'. I responded with a 'Hi' and sat back to watch him do amazing things while I struggled to do a sit-up in the corner. While I was trying, the guy said goodbye to me, and when I turned around, I realized it was Rob. He looked completely different, with a man bun and had completely transformed himself with his incredible performance.
