Liverpool have appointed Virgil van Dijk as their new captain and Trent Alexander-Arnold as vice-captain in light of the departures of Jordan Henderson and James Milner. After serving as skipper for eight years, Henderson relinquished the armband when he transferred to Saudi Pro League team Al Ettifaq, where he coincidentally plays under the coaching of Steven Gerrard, the former Liverpool captain.

Following the end of his Liverpool contract, Milner's transfer to Brighton left the vice-captain position at Anfield unfilled. To fill the void, Alexander-Arnold, an academy graduate, was selected as his successor.

Van Dijk expressed his pride and joy for being named captain of Liverpool. He stated that it was a special feeling for him, his wife, kids, and family. He also mentioned that being the captain of Holland was a tremendous honor, but being the captain of Liverpool was indescribable.

I am extremely proud and committed to ensuring that both the football club and everyone associated with me can take pride and find happiness in my accomplishments. Since joining Liverpool in 2018, I have made over 200 appearances and secured victories in various prestigious competitions, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, and Community Shield.
