Vikings: Valhalla will conclude with its third season, and there are several intriguing elements to look forward to in these final episodes. While the original Vikings series has ended, its success has paved the way for a sequel series called Vikings: Valhalla. This new installment takes place over a hundred years after the events of Vikings, and introduces a fresh cast of characters. Though the focal point has shifted away from Ragnar, Rollo, Lagertha, and the others, their legacies continue to resonate in Valhalla, with their achievements being referenced on occasion.
Vikings: Valhalla revolves around various factions, each pursuing their own ambitions for power. Among them are siblings Leif Erikson (portrayed by Sam Corlett) and Freydis Eiríksdóttir (played by Frida Gustavsson), who embark on a mission of revenge against a Christian Viking. Along the way, they encounter Harald Sigurdsson (played by Leo Suter) and his half-brother Olaf Haraldsson (portrayed by Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson), both vying for the throne of Norway. Forming an alliance, they ultimately meet King Canute (played by Bradley Freegard), and together they help him conquer London, leading to his marriage to Queen Emma of Normandy (portrayed by Laura Berlin). Though their stories are far from being concluded, it is particularly exciting to anticipate what will unfold in season 3 of Vikings: Valhalla, being the final season of the series.
8. Leif Learning More About Astronomy & Science
Leif Was Given Access to Mariam's House & Books.
Harald and Freydis had their own love story, while Canute married Emma. On the other hand, Leif experienced a tragic romance with Liv. In Vikings: Valhalla season 2, things took an interesting turn when Mariam, an astronomer, entered the scene. She became Leif's mentor in the realms of science and astronomy, teaching him how to read and creating a deep bond between them. Unfortunately, Mariam fell ill and tragically passed away in Olbia. However, before her death, she entrusted Leif with the key to her house, allowing him to continue his studies using her extensive collection of books and notes. This invaluable resource will prove to be crucial for Leif's future adventures, especially as Vikings: Valhalla has yet to explore his most noteworthy journey.
7. Harald and Freydis Reuniting
Harald & Freydis Parted Ways In Season 2
Despite their undeniable connection, Harald and Freydis have faced numerous challenges in their relationship. In the first season of Vikings: Valhalla, Freydis felt betrayed by Harald and chose to leave him and Leif. However, they eventually reconciled after Freydis saved Harald's life during the Battle of Kattegat. Unfortunately, their reunion was short-lived as they decided to go their separate ways at the beginning of the second season. Freydis embarked on a journey to Jomsborg while Harald and Leif set off to Novgorod. Unbeknownst to Harald, Freydis was expecting their child when they parted ways but chose not to disclose this information. It was only later in the season that Harald learned about the impending arrival of their child through Leif.
At the conclusion of season 2 of Vikings: Valhalla, Freydis decided to remain in Jomsborg with her son, while Harald (along with Leif) embarked on a journey to Constantinople. Despite the appearance of Freydis and Harald together in official season 3 photos, it is uncertain whether their relationship will ultimately succeed. One can only hope that Freydis and Harald are able to reunite as a family and find solace after enduring countless trials and tribulations.
6. Harald Taking Norway Back
Harald's Main Goal Is To Take The Throne Of Norway.
5. Leif Traveling To America
Harald has been striving for one main objective in Vikings: Valhalla season 1 – to seize the throne of Norway. However, this ambition also captivates Olaf's attention, creating a fierce rivalry between them. In his pursuit of power, Harald journeys to Novgorod, seeking his uncle's assistance in assembling an army. Subsequently, Harald sets off to Constantinople with the identical aim of gathering forces to challenge Olaf. Yet, following his encounter with Elena and the Emperor's promise of a "gift," Harald's plans may undergo a temporary alteration. As Vikings: Valhalla season 3 progresses, it must continue depicting Harald's relentless endeavors to become the king of Norway. With luck, the series will remain faithful to the genuine account of Harald's story, allowing viewers to witness his ascension to the throne.
The Real Leif Erikson Was The First European In North America
When Leif Erikson was announced as one of the leading characters in Vikings: Valhalla, speculation arose regarding whether the series would depict his journey to North America. Leif Erikson, the real historical figure, arrived in continental North America prior to Christopher Columbus, making him the first European to do so. While Vikings introduced Floki and Ubbe as the first to reach North America, Vikings: Valhalla is still anticipated to incorporate this aspect of Leif's story, albeit with a few modifications. As the third season will mark the conclusion of Vikings: Valhalla, it represents the show's final opportunity to showcase Leif Erikson's most significant achievement.
4. Godwin Paying For What He Has Done To Emma
Godwin Has Been One Of Vikings: Valhalla's Biggest Traitors
In season 1, Godwin (David Oakes) served as the trusted advisor to King Aethelred and Queen Emma. However, his true nature was revealed as he proved to be untrustworthy. After the king's death, Godwin took on the responsibility of training and guiding the king's son and heir, Edmund. Unfortunately, once Canute achieved victory, Godwin's true colors emerged. He betrayed and killed Edmund after becoming the Earl of Wessex. Furthermore, he assisted Emma and King Forkbeard in deceiving Queen Aelfgifu.
In Vikings: Valhalla season 2, Godwin's betrayal and secret schemes escalated. He crafted an intricate plan to eliminate Emma and infiltrate the royal family. Despite his success, Emma eventually discovered his actions. Hopefully, Godwin will face the consequences of his betrayals in Vikings: Valhalla season 3.
3. The Battle of Stamford Bridge
The Battle of Stamford Bridge Ended The Viking Age
The beginning of Vikings: Valhalla featured the St. Brice’s Day massacre in 1002, which resulted in the alliance between Leif, Harald, Olaf, and Canute. The series is rumored to culminate with the conclusion of the Viking Age. This era reached its end with the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066, where the English army, led by King Harold Godwinson, clashed with the invading Norwegian force of King Harald Hardrada (Harald in Valhalla) and Tostig Godwinson, the English king’s brother. The timeline of Vikings: Valhalla can be confusing due to the alterations made to the characters’ stories. Therefore, the events leading up to the Battle of Stamford Bridge may vary, but it would be fascinating to witness nonetheless.
2. A Leif, Freydis, & Erik the Red Reunion
Erik The Red Will Make His Debut In Season 3
In season 1 of Vikings: Valhalla, Leif and Freydis, the offspring of Erik the Red, grapple with their father's tarnished image. However, Erik's tale and his connection with his children remain unexplored until season 3. In official photographs, we catch a glimpse of Erik with Freydis, but whether he will also be reunited with his son and how Leif will respond to this reunion remains to be seen. Vikings: Valhalla season 3 bears the responsibility of addressing lingering questions about this family dynamic. Witnessing the trio together after the tribulations endured by Leif and Freydis promises to be intriguing.
1. Canute’s Reign Alongside Emma
Canute Was Absent Through Most Of Season 2
In Vikings: Valhalla season 1, King Canute and Queen Emma were married. However, towards the end of the season, Canute had to depart to defend Denmark. Canute was mostly absent during season 2 but made a return in the final episodes. As a result, the series has yet to depict Canute and Emma ruling England together. Considering everything Emma has endured with Godwin, it is uncertain whether Canute is safe either. To ensure their safety and address various matters, they must remain united. Although Canute was a significant character in season 1, Vikings: Valhalla has not given him much attention. The final season presents an opportunity to rectify this and properly explore his story.
Editor's P/S
As a passionate fan of Vikings: Valhalla, I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming third season, which will serve as the epic conclusion to the series. There are several elements that I am particularly excited to see explored in these final episodes.
First and foremost, I am eager to see how the character of Leif Erikson continues to develop. In the first two seasons, Leif has been portrayed as a brave and resourceful explorer, but he has also been haunted by the death of his beloved wife, Liv. In season 3, I hope to see Leif find some measure of peace and happiness, whether it be through his newfound knowledge of astronomy or through a new romantic relationship.
Another element that I am looking forward to seeing in season 3 is the further development of the relationship between Harald Sigurdsson and Freydis Eiríksdóttir. These two characters have had a complex and often tumultuous relationship, but they have also shown a deep love and respect for each other. In season 3, I hope to see Harald and Freydis finally overcome their differences and find a way to be together.
