Wemby is here.
In his most impressive performance to date in the NBA, Victor Wembanyama scored an outstanding 38 points and added 10 rebounds and two blocks, leading the San Antonio Spurs to a 132-121 triumph over the Phoenix Suns.
This was the second meeting between the Spurs and the Suns in Arizona this week, having played at the Footprint Center on Tuesday. The Spurs emerged victorious that night as well, overcoming a 20-point deficit with a last-second shot. However, Thursday's game took on a completely different tone.
The Spurs started off strong, outscoring the Suns by 19 points in the first quarter alone. At one point in the first half, they held a commanding 27-point lead and entered halftime with a score of 75-55.
However, it was Phoenix's turn to make a comeback this time. Boosted by the presence of their superstar duo, Kevin Durant and a returning Devin Booker, the Suns were able to close the gap and tie the game at 116 points thanks to a three-pointer from Keita Bates-Diop with slightly over four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Spurs ensured they didn't relinquish their lead and secured 12 consecutive points, with Wembanyama contributing 10 of them. The top pick, Wembanyama, displayed absolute dominance, shooting 15-for-26 from the field, sinking three three-pointers, and effectively controlling the offensive paint by exploiting the size disadvantage against smaller defenders in the post.
It's astonishing to think that Wembanyama, who is only 19 years old, has just completed five games in his NBA career.
"The NBA possesses the most exceptional athletes on the planet," Wembanyama stated following the match. "And thus far, their performance has been quite impressive.
"In each game, we make a conscious effort to identify the optimal weak point that we can exploit. Today, it might be in one direction; tomorrow, it could be with another individual. This is the essence of successful teamwork."

2014 NBA MVP Durant was full of praise for his young adversary after the game and told reporters that basketball has never seen anyone quite like Wembanyama.
"He is his own player and person, he will forge his own path," Durant stated, disregarding any comparisons between himself and the Frenchman. "He is unlike anyone who has ever played before. You may attempt to draw comparisons, but he will establish his own unique style."
Durant recorded 28 points, while Booker, who had been sidelined for the past three games due to an ankle sprain, came close to achieving a triple double with 31 points, nine rebounds, and 13 assists.
The Spurs improve to 3-2 while the Suns, who are still without All-Star guard Bradley Beal, drop to 2-3.
