Vanessa Williams, 61, unveiled her latest song and music video, “Legs (Keep Dancing),” on Friday, April 26. Fans are already showing their excitement. "Vanessa Williams just released a new song and video!!!!!! 61 years old, oh you pop girls better watch out," one fan shared on social media. Another user added, "Wait a minute, Vanessa Williams just dropped a hit!"

The song conveys a message of perseverance and self-empowerment, emphasizing the importance of not giving up as one ages. In the pre-chorus, Williams confidently sings, “Say what you say, expect me to fade / I don’t think about it, I don’t think about it,” highlighting her determination to keep going. She expresses her commitment to continue working towards her goals, declaring, “I got work left to do and I’m not close to through / Not while I still got these legs.”

This defiant and celebratory spirit carries on into the chorus, where Williams asserts, “They say the legs are the last to go (I’mma keep dancing) / I’m still putting on a show (I’mma keep dancing) / Till I can’t do it no more.” The lyrics reflect her unwavering resolve to keep moving forward and enjoying life to the fullest, regardless of any obstacles that may come her way.

Williams does indeed keep dancing throughout the video, which shows her executing some major choreography with help from numerous backup performers.

Williams gave fans a sneak peek into the rehearsal room before the song's release. She shared a clip of herself walking in as dancers prepared for auditions, captioning the post with "Let me show these children."

In the comments, Mike Ruiz, the video director, playfully remarked, "Sometimes the children just need to be schooled!"

The song's title is a nod to Diahann Carroll's memoir from 2008 called The Legs Are the Last to Go: Aging, Acting, Marrying, and Other Things I Learned the Hard Way.

In a press release, cowriter Kipper Jones revealed that the whole concept was Vanessa's idea. He mentioned that Williams was set on including Carroll's title in the song, but they weren't sure if it would be the title or just a lyric. This approach was similar to how they came up with 'The Comfort Zone' back in 1991.

Earlier this month, Williams revealed that her upcoming full-length album is set to be released later this year.

In a statement, she expressed her joy at being back in the studio with her old friends, creating new music behind the mic. Reflecting on her years in the music industry, she finds comfort in the process of making new music while reminiscing about past successes, excitement, and memories. Williams is driven by always moving forward, finding excitement in every challenge. She is fueled by the prospect of sharing more new music with her fans.
