The Legacy of 2023
Following the launch of its third expansion, Vampire Survivors pulls back the curtain on its next update and its plans for 2024 and beyond.
With 2023 in the books, Vampire Survivors posted a note on its Steam page to tease its upcoming version 1.9 update and its plans for 2024. In addition to the note, Vampire Survivors offered an update on other projects and aspects related to the game and provided some context behind some internal codenames for its releases.
Following the release of patch 1.8, the Deeplorable Update, Vampire Survivors released its third paid expansion, Emergency Meeting, which is a crossover with Among Us. Featuring new playable Crewmate and Impostor characters, and a pixelated Polus Replica map to explore and fight through, Emergency Meeting was the second DLC released in 2023, alongside the Tides of the Foscari DLC. Though both expansions were paid content, Vampire Survivors was not done with releasing free updates to the game throughout 2023. Between the release of modes such as Adventures, Whiteout, and Local Co-Op, plus a surprising launch on the Nintendo Switch, the addicting and affordable indie hit continued hitting its stride through the year.
With 2024 officially underway, the team at Poncle gave Vampire Survivors players an update on where things stand with the game. After recapping its 2023 accomplishments, Poncle stated that online multiplayer for Vampire Survivors was still being looked into but clarified that retroactively adding it would be challenging. In addition, cross-save functionality was held up due to pending compliance with various data protection laws. However, Poncle stated that a public beta for cross-save functionality between Steam and Android was planned to launch in February. Poncle reiterated that the Vampire Survivors animated TV series was still being worked on in cooperation with Story Kitchen, but confirmed that production was affected by the various writer and actor strikes that took place in 2023.
However, Poncle stated that more news on the TV show would come later in 2024. As for game content, Vampire Survivors showed a few changes made to the Chaos Roadmap following the release of the Emergency Meeting DLC. Chalcedony was confirmed to be the codename for Emergency Meeting, and the Honey Moon codename was for patch 1.9, titled Space 54. The patch is currently available on the public beta client for Steam users to test before its release in February.
In closing, Poncle revealed a cryptic Vampire Survivors Experiment chart and stated that they are teaming up with other indie game developers on some projects. Given the crossover potential that Vampire Survivors has with other games, only time will tell what will come of Poncle's plans.
