Cities: Skyline 2 developer, Colossal Order, has shared an update on their post-release plans and future goals for the game. One of their objectives is to achieve a stable 30 frames per second performance while also addressing any performance issues that may arise.
To achieve this, Colossal Order is actively working on various improvements. They are focused on eliminating any stutters, optimizing and balancing GPU performance, and implementing CPU optimizations. Additionally, the studio is exploring ways to expand the available options for upscaling solutions.
"According to a forum post by Colossal Order, both FSR2 and DLSS2 require Temporal Anti-aliasing, which is presently not possible because some objects are incompatible with this technique. The studio is actively working on making this compatibility achievable, which will not only enhance performance but also provide a superior anti-aliasing solution compared to the current one."
In addition, Colossal Order aims to maintain a steady 30 frames per second for the game. They explain that for a city builder genre like this, there isn't much long-term benefit in aiming for a higher frame rate, unlike genres such as multiplayer shooters. However, the studio acknowledges that they will continue optimizing the game even after reaching the target frame rate, as a higher frame rate can improve visuals and temporal effects.
Despite being aware of the game's technical issues, publisher Paradox Interactive proceeded with the release on October 24 for PC, even issuing a warning to fans. Additionally, there are plans to launch Cities: Skylines 2 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2024.
