Dave The Diver has emerged as one of the most successful indie games of 2023, and now Mintrocket, the team responsible for the popular pixel art fishing and management sim game, is changing gears and taking on a new project. Their latest endeavor is Nakwon: Last Paradise, a third-person PvPvE zombie stealth survival game inspired by DayZ. Initially announced in September, players will have the opportunity to participate in a pre-alpha playtest of the game from November 29 to December 3.

Set in a post-apocalyptic version of Seoul, South Korea, Nakwon: Last Paradise presents a challenging environment where firearms are scarce. Survivors will need to rely on cunning, stealth, and, as a last resort, melee weapons to stay alive. The game incorporates a PvPvE setting, mirroring the delicate balance between cooperation and hostility found in DayZ. In this world, every human encountered could be either a friend or foe. Accompanying the playtest announcement is a 20-minute gameplay video showcasing the current progress of the game.

The game also includes a gameplay loop that is similar to Escape from Tarkov, Call of Duty's DMZ, or Vigor. Players will enter the city with others, gather loot, and then attempt to escape with their belongings and their lives.

Mintrocket has announced that the game's first pre-alpha playtest will be available on the Steam page and is free for anyone who wants to join. There are no restrictions on the number of players who can participate. Details on additional playtests are not currently available. Players who want to provide feedback or stay updated on the game are encouraged to join the Nakwon Discord server. At this time, Nakwon has been announced for PC only.

I'm also intrigued by the setting of the game. Seoul, South Korea, is a fascinating city, and I'm excited to see how it's been transformed into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. I'm also curious to see how the game's PvPvE mechanics work. I think it will be a lot of fun to try to survive in a world where not only do you have to worry about zombies but also other players.
