In an interview with Vogue in August 2022, she expressed that while there are moments when she daydreams about her mother apologizing and their relationship taking a positive turn, she acknowledges that this is merely fantasy. She explains that her book delves into the idea of not romanticizing the deceased and not seeking validation through their experiences.

The individual, who hails from California, goes on to assert that even if her mother were still alive, she firmly believes that she would still battle eating disorders and face numerous mental health struggles. Furthermore, she believes that she and her mother would still reside in the same location, leaving her with no opportunity to form relationships or cultivate friendships. She has no doubt that her life would continue to be under her mother's control if she were still alive.

Jennette opened up about the impact of her mother's passing on her relationship with her other family members, expressing gratitude for the camaraderie and support she has found with her brothers. She also acknowledged the significant love and support she received from her grandfather. Although hesitant at first, the host of the "Empty Inside" podcast eventually found the courage to openly talk about her childhood experiences.

She emphasized the significance of having extensive therapy experience due to the deeply personal nature of her memoir. Prior to delving into her personal experiences creatively, she underwent several years of intense therapy to gain the necessary perspective.

Similarly, the Home Alone star opened up about his decision to step away from the public eye, attributing it to his complicated relationship with his parents. Drew's father, John Barrymore, died in 2003 at age 72 from cancer.
