Nico Tortorella, a young star of the show, recently shared an optimistic update regarding the potential revival of Younger. After airing for seven seasons from 2015 to 2021, the romantic dramedy centered around the character Liza Miller, played by Sutton Foster. The series, based on a book by Pamela Redmond Satran and created by renowned producer Darren Star, follows Liza's journey as she pretends to be twenty years younger to combat ageism in the publishing industry.
In an interview with People, Tortorella expressed hope for a Younger revival. The actor, who portrayed Josh in the show, discusses their positive outlook on the possibility of continuing the story and shares fond memories of their time working on the series. Tortorella even suggests the potential for a follow-up film. Read their full comments below.
There will probably be another version of that story in the future, maybe in the next five or ten years. It is hard to imagine there won't be a film at some point.
I believe it was a courageous and correct decision. It doesn't feel like an ending to me. I believe there is more to the story.
“I love those guys. I spent almost a decade of my life with that cast. To be able to go back and just play make-believe in a summer camp in the city with all of them, yes.”
How Younger Should Return After A Cancelled Spinoff
Plans for a spinoff of the popular show Younger, with a focus on Kelsey (portrayed by Hilary Duff), were in the works. However, despite Younger coming to an end, the spinoff was never officially announced and the series set in Los Angeles was ultimately abandoned. Instead, Duff was chosen to play the lead role in Hulu's spinoff of How I Met Your Mother, titled How I Met Your Father. Interestingly, Duff has recently mentioned that she would have preferred a Younger movie rather than a series, a sentiment that aligns with Tortorella's current perspective on a potential sequel film project.
While Kelsey ultimately ended up in Los Angeles, the Younger finale left the relationship between Josh and Liza open-ended, offering hope to fans. Considering the trend of underwhelming reboots and revivals that fail to leave a lasting impact, a movie could be a more fitting way to catch up with Josh, Liza, Kelsey, and other characters, rather than a prolonged revival that unnecessarily stretches over several episodes.
Currently, Darren Star is occupied with Netflix's Emily in Paris, while Duff is focused on her own show. Tony winner Foster will be returning to the stage in January, and Tortorella recently wrapped up a major role in the Apple TV+ miniseries City on Fire. Although the cast and creator of Younger may be busy at the moment, it appears that they are open to the idea of a revival in the form of a movie.
