Star Wars' Inquisitors form a distinct group of dark side Force users who reside in the shadow of Darth Vader. Formerly members of the Jedi Order, these Imperial Inquisitors now serve the Sith and are dedicated to tracking down any survivors of their former religious order. Among the Inquisitors are those who managed to survive Order 66, enduring capture and torture by the Empire before succumbing to the allure of the dark side. Others had already strayed from the path, either voluntarily leaving the Jedi Order or being expelled prior to the eradication orchestrated by Darth Sidious.
The Grand Inquisitor, initially introduced in Star Wars Rebels, directly reports to Darth Vader. The remaining Inquisitors, known as Brothers and Sisters, follow the command of the Grand Inquisitor. However, there is a considerable amount of conflict and betrayal within their ranks as they vie to gain the favor of their master. Only the Third Sister, Reva, possesses knowledge of Vader's true identity, yet even she underestimates his immense power. While Darth Vader is admired as the epitome of excellence for Force users and lightsaber wielders, the question remains: do the Inquisitors possess the abilities to rival him?
The Inquisitors' Force Powers Compared To Darth Vader
The Inquisitors' levels of power in the Force vary among individuals. While the Grand Inquisitor possesses the greatest strength among them, others like the Tenth Brother are considerably weaker. Vader and Sidious purposely kept the Inquisitors from learning the true ways of the Sith, fearing that their servants may become formidable threats. The Inquisitors are capable of dealing with surviving Jedi Padawans who have yet to fully develop their Force powers, but they are easily surpassed by formidable opponents like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, and Darth Maul.
In contrast, Darth Vader is arguably the most powerful being to have ever existed. An embodiment of the Force itself, he has accomplished unfathomable feats as both a Jedi and Sith, far beyond the abilities of the Inquisitors. Reva spent years progressing through the ranks to seek revenge on Vader for the massacre of her fellow Jedi younglings, but when the moment came, he effortlessly subdued her with a simple gesture. There are few who can deflect lightsaber strikes using Force techniques and effortlessly manipulate objects like ships from the sky, but Vader accomplished these actions with ease.
The Inquisitors' Lightsaber Skills Compared To Darth Vader
The Inquisitors receive extensive training in lightsaber combat, unlike the Force. When Vader first encountered his servants, he required them to experience loss to motivate their lightsaber training. They were adequately skilled to defeat hunted Jedi, as evidenced by the remains of a few slain Jedi displayed in the chamber of Fortress Inquisitorius. However, many of them were later defeated by other Force users. Cal Kestis emerged victorious against the Second Sister, Kanan Jarrus overpowered the Grand Inquisitor, Ahsoka Tano easily defeated the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister, and Darth Maul swiftly eliminated the latter two.
Vader surpassed his Jedi self, Anakin Skywalker, in lightsaber combat and was considered one of the greatest duelists at the time. Only Obi-Wan Kenobi was able to defeat him, utilizing his arrogance and hatred against him. To understand the skill level of the Inquisitors compared to Vader, one can examine how he fared against the opponents who defeated them. Cal was forced to retreat from Vader, while Kanan and his apprentice Ezra Bridger were easily defeated. Vader evokes fear in Maul, hinting at a hidden conflict between the two. Ahsoka was the only one able to hold her ground, and her survival was only possible due to an unprecedented intervention.
Could The Inquisitors Ever Beat Darth Vader?
In no scenario, regardless of whether they acted alone or together as a group, could the Inquisitors ever emerge victorious against Darth Vader. The Sith Lord's immense power and overwhelming presence in the Force make him invincible, capable of eliminating them all effortlessly, even without the use of his lightsaber. The brutal consequences that Vader inflicted upon Reva would pale in comparison should the Inquisitors challenge him, and their defeat would be inevitable. As Sith disciples, Vader's ability to convert his pain and rage into formidable strength through his deep-seated hatred only amplifies his invincibility. Designed to be expendable followers in the Star Wars universe, any attempt by the Inquisitors to attack Vader would result in their swift and merciless demise.
