After completing the main quest "Home, Sweet Home" in Final Fantasy 16 and starting "The Gathering Storm," Clive will unlock a new side quest in the upgraded Hideaway called "Caulk and Bawl." This side quest becomes available once Clive reads Gav's letter at the Reading Table in his Chambers.
To initiate the "Caulk and Bawl" side quest in Final Fantasy 16, Clive needs to make his way to The Pier area of The Hideaway and continue walking along the dock towards the exit. It is here that he will come across a mysterious hooded man named Obolus. Upon interacting with Obolus, he will request a rather unusual favor from Clive.
How To Get Pitcher Wax For Obolus
Upon conversing with Obolus, Clive will be compelled to lend an ear to the man's grievances concerning the dilapidated state of his boat. As much as he yearns to restore it to its former glory, Clive finds himself lacking the necessary resources and devoid of any means to obtain them independently. In the event that players opt to assist Obolus in his quest to procure the coveted materials, Clive will embark on a journey to procure them.
In order to acquire the Pitcher Wax needed by Clive, he must fast-travel to the Three Reeds location which is situated just north of The Hideaway. Once he spawns in the area, he should continue forward along the clearly marked path until he reaches a left turn leading towards the base of a cliff ahead. Progressing towards the green quest marker, Clive will come across a group of five Thorny Thistles that must be defeated in order to obtain the Pitcher Wax.
After successfully defeating all five enemies, Clive will be rewarded with 8 Sharp Fangs and 16 Magicked Ashes. These valuable resources can be utilized for crafting and upgrading his gear. Additionally, he will receive 5 units of Pitcher Wax, which he can then deliver to Obolus in The Hideaway.
How To Complete Caulk And Bawl In Final Fantasy 16
Once Clive obtains the Pitcher Wax, he can conveniently teleport back to The Hideaway and approach Obolus once again. Upon engaging with him, players will have the choice to surrender the wax. As soon as they do, Obolus will express his gratitude to Clive for his assistance and proceed to divulge the history of the Argo, the boat he intends to restore. The boat holds immense sentimental value for Obolus, as it originally belonged to his late father, serving as a poignant reminder of his memory.
After Obolus reflects on past events, he expresses gratitude towards Clive by presenting him with a Badge of Might +1 accessory as a token of appreciation for his assistance. By equipping this accessory through the Gear & Eikons tab in the pause menu, Clive's Attack stat is enhanced by 12 points.
Players who believe that Clive's offensive capabilities could use improvement should contemplate assigning this accessory to one of his available slots. Once Clive's inventory includes the accessory, the Caulk and Bawl side quest will reach its conclusion.
Final Fantasy 16 is available exclusively on PlayStation 5.
