Upon arrival in Martha's Rest, players of Final Fantasy 16 must complete a series of subquests for Martha in order to advance the main story. After completing these subquests, the "Holding On" main story mission is unlocked, allowing players to continue their journey to Eastpool. Before proceeding, players may want to take the opportunity to further explore Martha's Rest, as new side quests have become available.
One such side quest is titled "Crystalline Lifeline," where Clive and Jill assist a humble fishmonger by retrieving a valuable item for him. While not particularly challenging, the quest does involve engaging in combat against a group of capable enemies. Players must stay alert in order to retrieve the fishmonger's crystal and claim their well-deserved reward.
How to Complete Crystalline Lifeline in Final Fantasy 16
Players can initiate the "Crystalline Lifeline" side quest by conversing with Clarke, a fishmonger situated in Martha's Rest near the Fallen Gate. Clarke, who is distressed by the disappearance of his crystal used for preserving his catch, will solicit the assistance of Final Fantasy 16 players. In return for their aid, he offers a reward of 1,000 Gil, which is a fair compensation considering the minimal effort required to accomplish the "Crystalline Lifeline" quest.
It transpires that Clarke accidentally dropped his valuable crystal into the nearby bog, where it was promptly snatched up by a Bog Crab. Once players agree to assist him, they can descend into the bog using the ladder conveniently positioned next to Clarke. By following the quest marker, they will eventually encounter a group of hostile Bog Crabs. The most effective method of defeating these creatures is to strike from behind, although employing Eikonic Abilities can also yield impressive results.
After defeating the last crab, players will be rewarded with the Foul Crystem. They can then return to Clarke, either by climbing back up the ladder or utilizing the fast travel option at the Martha's Rest obelisk. Clarke will express his delight upon receiving his crystal back and fulfill his promise by paying Clive 1,000 Gil for his efforts. Additionally, players will earn 19 XP, ten Wyrrite, and ten Magicked Ash, making this side quest highly lucrative, especially considering its swift completion time.
Final Fantasy 16 is currently only accessible on the PlayStation 5 platform.
