FromSoftware games are renowned in the gaming community for their extreme difficulty and harsh consequences for failure. Accomplishing the feat of beating games like Elden Ring or Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is impressive on its own, but modern gaming has introduced the additional motivation of trophies and achievements for players to strive for. While some games have incredibly challenging criteria for earning the coveted 100% completion trophy or ticking off every achievement, FromSoftware titles surprisingly have relatively straightforward requirements considering their notorious difficulty.
The rise of achievement hunting and platinum trophy chasing has created a subset of gamers who aim to fully complete a game, unlocking every possible trophy or achievement to truly consider the game finished. Within this completionist community, a few games are notorious for being exceptionally challenging to complete. However, despite being known for their difficulty, FromSoftware titles have relatively manageable requirements for completion. For players seeking to elevate their gaming experience and fully complete their first game, starting with a game like Dark Souls would be an ideal choice.
FromSoftware's Games are Surprisingly Simple to 100% Complete
At first glance, some games may appear easy and appealing to a wide range of players. However, they can often prove to be highly challenging for completionists. Games like Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time may seem cute and charming, but they hide ridiculously difficult achievements. For example, Crash Bandicoot 4 forces players to clear every level, collect every crate, and do so without dying. Likewise, Sackboy includes an achievement that requires players to beat all the game's time trials without dying, one after another.
On the other hand, the core gameplay of FromSoftware's Soulslike games may seem brutal, but their achievements are relatively straightforward to accomplish. It's evident that the game developers expect players to die repeatedly, as there are no insane achievements like finishing the game without dying. Most achievements can be unlocked simply by progressing naturally through the main game. Although some achievements may require players to experience different endings through multiple playthroughs, which can be time-consuming, they are still far from the most challenging achievements to obtain.
Dark Souls presents the easiest challenge among FromSoftware games, as most of its trophies and achievements are obtained naturally by progressing through the main storyline. However, players must also acquire all weapons, sorceries, miracles, and pyromancies in the game, as well as upgrade weapons in each weapon upgrade class. They must also join each of Dark Souls' covenants and defeat optional bosses. Achieving 100% completion may take some time, but for devoted Dark Souls players, it shouldn't pose too much of a challenge.
On the other hand, Bloodborne is considered one of FromSoftware's most difficult games to complete. This is primarily due to the inclusion of Chalice Dungeons, which players must conquer in order to earn all trophies. In addition to defeating major bosses throughout the game, players must collect all weapons and battle the final boss found within the Chalice Dungeons. They must also complete multiple playthroughs to unlock all three potential endings. While facing Yharnam, Blood Queen of the Old Labyrinth, and navigating each Chalice Dungeon can prove to be arduous and time-consuming tasks, these challenges are not uncommon for experienced FromSoftware fans.
