Many of the side quests in Final Fantasy 16 serve as a way to explore Valisthea's world and its inhabitants, rather than solely enhancing gameplay for players. While some may find this tedious, especially those involving excessive back and forth, the "Pride Comes Before a Fall" side quest offers a refreshing change. It is short and straightforward, requiring players to defeat a few imperial soldiers. Whether or not it is enjoyable can be debated, but the rewards obtained make it one of the worthwhile side quests in Final Fantasy 16.
How to Complete Pride Comes Before a Fall in Final Fantasy 16
The "Pride Comes Before a Fall" side quest becomes available when players of Final Fantasy 16 are working on the "The Dame" subquest in the "Righting Wrongs" main story mission. To trigger it, they need to go to the courtyard of the Imperial Training Grounds and speak with Leon, one of the two Garrison Soldiers near the weapon racks.
Leon is displeased to see that Clive is collaborating with Isabelle, which prompts him to challenge Clive to a fight. If players agree, they must approach Leon once again and choose "Yes" when asked if they want to unsheathe their blade. The ensuing battle is straightforward, as Clive's exceptional Eikonic Abilities allow him to swiftly overpower Leon. Following that, players will have to defeat the other soldier, Robin. Despite Robin being slightly more skilled than his companion, he too will be vanquished relatively easily and without putting up much resistance.
After nursing their injuries and bemoaning their lackluster performance in the battle, players will be rewarded with a Meteorite, 22 XP, and 1,100 Gil. As Clive departs, Robin will request that he inform The Dame that the duo managed to land a few decent blows, although this outcome may not have been common for most players. Final Fantasy 16 is currently only accessible on the PlayStation 5.
