WARNING! This article contains spoilers for the season 2 finale of From! The Boy in White, a mysterious character in the show, makes a dramatic return in the finale. Despite his continued enigma, his role in the town remains unclear. The Boy in White appeared to various characters throughout From, starting with Victor as a child 40 years ago and later appearing to Ethan, Boyd, and Sara in season 1. Played by Vox Smith in season 2, his presence has expanded to other characters like Tabitha. However, whether he is truly good or secretly sinister has yet to be revealed.
In the season 1 finale, the Boy in White assists Boyd and Sara in escaping the forest. In From's season 2 ending, he reappears in a shocking scene with Tabitha. Tabitha goes to the lighthouse, hoping to save the children she saw in her visions. There, she encounters the Boy in White, who breaks his silence and apologizes before pushing her out of the lighthouse window. While this might suggest ill intentions on his part, Tabitha waking up outside the town suggests there may be more to his true purpose.
The Boy In White Helps Save From's Trapped Characters
The purpose of the Boy in White is to act as the guardian angel for those trapped within "Fromville." He appears to individuals who are in dire need of help and are open to seeing him. For instance, Jim would probably reject the Boy in White as a source of assistance, whereas Ethan, From's long-time resident Victor, Sara, Boyd, and Tabitha are more receptive due to their imaginations, innocence, communication with the forest, observation of the forest's powers, and experiencing visions about trapped children in the lighthouse.
During the crucial moments when those with the greatest potential to save the town and unravel its mysteries are in desperate situations, the Boy in White emerges to guide them. Fromville intentionally presents the unnamed young boy, dressed entirely in white and rarely speaking during visions, in a way that prompts skepticism from the audience. However, he appears to be a spirit within Fromville who counteracts the sinister nature of the forest. In the conclusion of From season 2, episode 10, Tabitha discovers him at the top of the lighthouse, suggesting that the Boy in White may be the "lighthouse keeper" who oversees the town and searches for ways to rescue them from the enigmatic monsters of From.
Was The Boy In White A Resident Of The Town Before Victor? Who He Really Is
For instance, when Victor was a child and the entire town seemingly perished, the Boy in White likely emerged to alleviate his loneliness. Just in the nick of time, Boyd and Sara were rescued by the Boy in White who guided them to a remote tree. In the season 2 finale of From, the Boy in White propelled Tabitha out of the lighthouse, ultimately transporting her back home. Thus far, the Boy in White has only pursued actions that benefit From's characters, although his brief cameos leave much of his intentions shrouded in ambiguity.
The Boy in White from season 3 is shrouded in mystery, particularly regarding his true identity. Throughout the series, his name has never been disclosed, and due to his lack of communication until the season 2 finale, there is little information about his background or whether he was once a living being. The Boy in White gives the impression of being a forest spirit, as he has not aged in the past four decades since Victor first encountered him. However, it remains uncertain whether he perished in Fromville before becoming a spirit. It is possible that he passed away and now exists as a spirit, appearing in the visions of new residents, much like From's "anghkooey" children, in an attempt to protect them and confront the forces responsible for his own demise.
Why The Boy In White Only Appears To Certain From Characters
Given From's executive producers being the same as Lost, it's plausible that the Boy in White serves a role comparable to Jacob, the ageless protector of the town in the popular sci-fi series. Just as Jacob sought a successor on the island in Lost, the Boy in White may be in search of his own youthful successor in characters like Ethan and, previously, Victor. If this is the case, then the Boy in White's counterpart to Jacob's sinister brother, the Man in Black, is likely the malicious force referred to as "It" in the forest by Sara. This would suggest that both the Boy in White and his malevolent adversary in From's town were born there, potentially growing up at the lighthouse.
Only a handful of characters in seasons 1 and 2 have laid eyes on the enigmatic Boy in White, suggesting that his visibility may be connected to who he believes can offer the greatest assistance to the stranded residents. It seems likely that those who are receptive to his presence and embrace his guidance are the ones he reveals himself to. Speculation suggests that the Boy in White might only reveal himself to individuals who will play a vital role in dismantling "Fromville" and defying the influence of the nightmares. Although he appears to be the town's guardian angel, there may be unforeseen ulterior motives lurking behind the Boy in White's intentions and choice of characters in season 3 of From.
