Where to Find Bonifac MaksimovShould You Betray Bonifac?
"Missed the Mark" is the second installment of the Missed missions in Starfield. Initially, players are tasked with locating a lost courier for a Reliant Medical executive in Gagarin Landing. The subsequent mission revolves around finding the missing executive, who disappeared shortly after the courier. Upon completion of the "Missed Connections" mission, players will automatically embark on this new mission upon agreeing to assist Helena Strickland further. While some may question the ethical implications of placing a tracking device on an executive's personal spacecraft, the undeniable outcome is that Helena discovers the whereabouts of Bonifac Maksimov. He is currently located on Hawley, a moon of Olivas in the Alpha Centauri system.
Where to Find Bonifac Maksimov
The Hawley destination is labeled as a "Reclaimed Outpost," which is a common structure encountered while exploring planets. Within this outpost, players will face off against the Ecliptic Mercenaries, adversaries whose power levels are within the expected range for Alpha Centauri.
Comprising of two sizable rooms, this facility directs players to a second-floor office that is connected to the initial room. It is there that Bonifac, a captive, is found near the window. Upon initiating conversation with him, players will automatically release Bonifac from his restraints. Bonifac will then provide an explanation of the events: a man named Maldonado murdered the courier, stole the data, and cunningly employed Bonifac's ship, with Bonifac still aboard, to falsely implicate the executive.
Maldonado remains in the facility with possession of the stolen data, thus requiring the mission to proceed. Bonifac will adamantly request to accompany the player, equipped with a pistol for self-defense. Although he is not resilient to damage, it is crucial for him to maintain a safe distance during confrontations against Ecliptic in the second large chamber. Maldonado can be found in one of the side rooms on the lower floor.
Should You Betray Bonifac?
Upon finding and confronting Maldonado, he readily confesses to all of Bonifac's accusations. However, he proposes a deal to the player; in exchange for allowing him to eliminate Bonifac and flee with the valuable data, he promises an immediate reward of 4,000 credits. Should the player opt for this choice, they can subsequently return to Helena with the unfortunate outcome to gain 100 XP points and receive a moderate credit bonus that is contingent upon their current level.
If players refuse, they will be required to eliminate Maldonado. Unlike Bonifac, he possesses a decent level of competence for Alpha Centauri. However, players who have successfully dealt with the Ecliptic goons should have no significant difficulty in defeating him. The necessary data, labeled as "Private: Reliant Medical," can be found on Maldonado's person. As for Bonifac, he will return to Gagarin in his own ship. Therefore, proceed to Helena to deliver the positive development. In terms of rewards, choosing this path grants 100 XP and an additional 5,000 credits compared to the other path. Thus, in this particular situation, being the virtuous individual truly proves beneficial.
