Unveiling the Mind-Blowing Avengers Plot Twist: Nick Fury's Revelation Takes it to Another Level

The Avengers' absence becomes increasingly problematic as Rhodey exposes Nick Fury's alleged murder of Maria Hill, leaving fans questioning the justification behind their failure to intervene in the failed Secret Invasion

Caution! This article contains spoilers for Secret Invasion episode 5. The absence of the Avengers in Phase 5's Secret Invasion raises concerns, especially with Nick Fury's explanation in the show. Throughout the series, the Avengers have been constantly referred to, from Gravik's plan to create Super Skrulls using their DNA to the persistent questioning of their whereabouts directed at Nick Fury. This theme continues in episode 5, where the plot revolves around the Avengers' DNA, or the Harvest. While Secret Invasion has previously provided some explanation for their absence, episode 5 exacerbates the issue, particularly through Fury's thoughts on involving the Avengers and a significant plot point involving Fury and Maria Hill. The absence of the Avengers in Secret Invasion, and Phase 5 as a whole, becomes an even larger inconsistency in the storyline.

Rhodey Revealing Nick Fury's "Murder" Of Maria Hill Should Have Alerted The Avengers

In Secret Invasion episode 5 of the MCU, the Avengers' lack of agency is intensified by the Skrull impersonating Rhodes, who releases footage of Fury allegedly murdering Maria Hill. Although Fury and the audience are aware that Maria was actually killed by Gravik, who was impersonating Fury, the rest of the world in the MCU remains ignorant of this fact. Consequently, Fury finds himself being hunted as the most wanted man on the planet, since every major world power falsely believes he is responsible for killing a U.S. agent.

The absence of the Avengers becomes even more distressing when considering their past relationships with Maria and Fury. Despite news of Fury's supposed murder of Hill spreading globally, not a single Avenger has reached out to Fury or shown any indication of concern for the situation. It is highly unlikely that the former colleagues and friends of both Nick and Maria would show no interest in Maria's apparent death at the hands of Nick. This failure of the Avengers to offer support or assistance in Secret Invasion further exacerbates the situation.

Secret Invasion Has Failed To Justify The Avengers Not Turning Up

In Secret Invasion episode 5, Sonya Falsworth questions Fury about why he hasn't sought assistance from his "special friends" to battle Gravik. Marvel Studios attempts to justify the absence of the Avengers, but the explanation falls short. Fury wishes to prove that the world can be saved without relying on superheroes and to reaffirm his own worth after being affected by Thanos. Although this serves as a satisfying conclusion to Fury's character development, it lacks the impact of an earlier argument presented in a previous episode. The previous argument stated that involving the Avengers could risk them being impersonated by Skrulls and transformed into dangerous individuals. This reason is far more persuasive for Fury's decision to exclude the Avengers. Nevertheless, Secret Invasion episode 6 will likely see Fury concluding his war against Gravik without the aid of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
