Enterprise’s “Terra Nova” Did 2 Strange New Worlds Season 2 Stories
In the television show "Terra Nova" set in the world of Star Trek Enterprise, Captain Archer and his crew discovered that an asteroid crashed onto Terra Nova shortly after humans established a settlement there. The colonists were unaware that the asteroid was radioactive, leading to the deaths of the original group of Terra Novans from radiation poisoning and cancer. To escape the radiation, their descendants sought refuge in the caves. However, the radiation contaminated their water supply, resulting in the remaining Terra Novans also experiencing radiation poisoning. They blamed Earth for the attack on their colony and the deaths of their ancestors. A similar occurrence involving a radioactive meteorite took place in season 2, episode 4 of "Strange New Worlds" titled "Among the Lotus Eaters." This meteorite caused the inhabitants of Rigel VII, including Captain Pike and his crew, to lose their memories until the USS Enterprise disposed of the meteorite.
The idea of a frontier town settled by humans on an Earth-like Class-M planet, as depicted in Enterprise's Terra Nova, was revisited in the season 2 finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds titled "Hegemony." Despite the failure of the Terra Nova settlement, this did not discourage the United Federation of Planets from continuing their mission to colonize planets.
