Rhea Seehorn shares her thoughts on capturing the poignant Full-Circle Jimmy & Kim moment in the extraordinary series finale of Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul actress Rhea Seehorn has opened up about the series finale's significant moment between Jimmy and Kim. The Breaking Bad prequel, which concluded in August, followed the journey of lawyer Jimmy McGill, also known as Saul Goodman, and his partner-in-crime and love interest, Kim Wexler, portrayed by Emmy-nominated Rhea Seehorn. One of the first and last pivotal moments for the characters involved a quiet exchange while they shared a cigarette leaning against a wall.

In a recent interview with Gold Derby, Seehorn discussed the season 6 finale of Better Call Saul, which brought the story full circle as Kim visited Jimmy in jail. She reflected on filming these crucial scenes with co-star Bob Odenkirk and how the experience differed between their first and last day of shooting. Here's what she had to say:

By that time, I had developed a much deeper understanding of Bob, not only as a friend, but also as a scene partner alongside Kim and Jimmy. In terms of technique, we had a natural trust in each other from day one, which allowed us to come to set fully prepared and excited to see how the other person would bring something new to the table, challenging us to adjust our performances accordingly. This created a special bond between us, perceived as chemistry, which is truly remarkable. Nothing can be said or done in the exact same way until you discover how the other person delivers their lines or how they physically express themselves. Our connection grew even stronger as we got to know each other more, and by the end, there was great significance in saying, "Hi, Jimmy," in character as Kim. It was a way of conveying, "I acknowledge you and I know that you acknowledge me too."

I believe that the profound connection they always shared was rooted in the fact that they truly saw each other for who they were, deep down. By saying those lines, Kim is letting Jimmy know that she recognizes his true self and that she has always believed it was still there. There is still love, pain, and tragedy intertwined in their interaction—it's a hello and a goodbye to a chapter of their lives, at the very least. Personally, I had the privilege of portraying that scene on the very last day of shooting, and the weight of it all hit me. I realized how much Bob and I had gone through in the past seven years, and now here we were, bringing it to a close. It was a powerful moment. Drawing upon those emotions was a nice touch, but it was crucial to temper them because my character wasn't meant to be continuously crying.

The Better Call Saul Finale's Cigarette Scene Was The Perfect Full-Circle Moment

In 2015, the premiere of Better Call Saul introduced the first meeting between Jimmy and Kim. Jimmy, a struggling public defender, became frustrated when the Kettlemans chose the prestigious law firm HHM over him. In a fit of anger, he kicked a trashcan repeatedly, only to later find solace in silently sharing a cigarette with Kim in the parking garage. This scene effectively conveyed the deep connection between Jimmy and Kim, without relying on excessive dialogue.

In the finale of Better Call Saul, Jimmy accepts an 86-year prison sentence after admitting his involvement in Walter White's criminal empire. Despite being incarcerated, Jimmy and Kim share a meaningful moment as they lean against a wall, once again sharing a cigarette. This mirrors the same moment they had in the series premiere. This final on-screen interaction serves as a subtle reminder that, despite the challenges they faced, the profound connection between Jimmy and Kim has always existed. Their relationship has truly been the heart of Better Call Saul.
