A sequel to Pokemon Legends: Arceus set in the Gen 5 region of Unova is highly likely, based on leaks and rumors.
The game is expected to offer a selection of starter Pokémon from various generations, much like Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
In a Pokemon Legends game based in the Unova region, the probable trio of starter Pokémon could consist of Torchic, Turtwig, and Froakie, showcasing a combination of well-liked Pokémon.
After the success of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, it is highly probable that another game in a similar style is currently being developed. According to leaks and rumors, this potential game could take place in the Unova region of Gen 5. In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, players were taken back in time to an alternate version of Gen 4's Sinnoh Region called Hisui. This region introduced never-before-seen variations of Pokemon, allowing players to choose from three starter options from different generations. With this foundation in place, it can be assumed that a sequel set in Unova's past will provide players with similar choices.
In the land of Hisui in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, players were given the option to select either Cyndaquil from Gen 2, Oshawott from Gen 5, or Rowlet from Gen 7 as their starter Pokemon. Additionally, each of these starter Pokemon obtained a unique Hisuian Form for their final evolution, which not only altered their appearance but also their typing, making them more distinct to the Hisui Region. Since none of these Pokemon are native to Gen 4 or the Sinnoh Region, it is unlikely that a Pokemon Legends game set in Unova would feature the starter Pokemon from Gen 5. As a result, the selection of starter Pokemon for this potential game becomes even more intriguing.
The Pokemon Most Likely to Be Starters in a Legends Unova Game
The starters from Gen 5, Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott, can be ruled out because they were not featured in Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Oshawott was already included as an option. It can be assumed that starters from Gen 2 and Gen 7 are also not possible as they were already represented in the game. The iconic Gen 1 starters are unlikely to appear since including only one of them would overshadow the starters from other generations.
With these eliminated, starters from Gens 3, 4, 6, 8, and 9 remain. However, it is unlikely that the Gen 9 starters would be included since they were recently featured in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Therefore, there are four generations left to choose from. It is also unlikely that more than one starter would be chosen from the same generation. This means that one Grass type, one Fire type, and one Water type can be selected from any combination of these four generations for the starter trio in a Pokemon Legends: Arceus sequel.
Taking into account the restrictions presented, the top choices for a starting trio would likely be Torchic from Generation 3, Turtwig from Generation 4, and Froakie from Generation 6. This selection of Pokémon encompasses a diverse range of starters, featuring both bipedal and quadrupedal creatures. Additionally, these Pokémon have the potential to acquire new types in their final evolutions, while still fitting within the established triangle of Pokémon starter types.
One drawback of this particular trio is that Blaziken and Greninja have had special forms in the past, such as Mega Blaziken and Ash-Greninja, which could result in an overwhelming representation in terms of Unovan Forms.
Despite this flaw, these three Pokémon offer a great combination of popular creatures that could greatly enhance a new Pokemon Legends game. They deserve the attention and expanded lore that accompanies inclusion in a Pokemon Legends game, and their role as starters in a Pokemon Legends game set in the Unova region would establish a connection between Unova and their respective original generations. However, since there is only one game serving as a precedent for speculation, this prediction may be proven wrong if Game Freak decides to take a different direction with the next Pokemon Legends game.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available for Nintendo Switch.
