In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2, Episode 5 titled "Charades," we witness a unique twist on Spock and Kirk's first-ever fight. Lt. James T. Kirk (played by Paul Wesley) briefly appeared in a previous episode, "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow," when he was contacted by Lt. La'an Noonien-Singh (played by Christina Chong) from the USS Farragut. It's worth noting that Wesley has portrayed alternate-reality versions of Captain Kirk before, but none of those encounters involved a potential altercation with Lt. Spock (played by Ethan Peck).
In "Charades," an unfortunate shuttle accident leaves Spock severely injured. To save him, the interdimensional beings known as the Kerkhovians step in and "repair" him. However, during the process, Spock's Vulcan DNA is removed and he is transformed into a fully human being. With this transformation comes the emotional development of a human teenager, making Spock's adjustment quite challenging. We observe Spock indulging in excessive bacon and alcohol consumption, misinterpreting jokes, and experiencing bouts of panic and anger. These emotions almost lead him to attack one of his subordinates in the Life Sciences division of the USS Enterprise, coincidentally named Kirk.
Spock & Kirk’s First Star Trek Fight Almost Happened - But With Sam Kirk
The potential showdown between Spock and Kirk in Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 5, almost occurred. However, it would have been a clash between Spock and Lt. George Samuel Kirk (Dan Jeannotte). Even before turning human, Sam Kirk's habit of leaving behind used coffee cups, plates, and crumbs during Life Science division meetings annoyed the amiable Spock. Despite cleaning up after Kirk without any acknowledgment, Spock's OCD and temper became uncontrollable once he became human. This led to a hilarious confrontation where Spock charged at Sam, threatening to break him with the words, "Don't test me, Kirk! I will break you!"
Fortunately, two Starfleet Officers had to intervene and restrain Spock before he attacked Sam Kirk. If the fight had ensued, Sam may have had a better chance than expected. Being half-Vulcan, Spock would have easily defeated him due to his superior physical strength. However, since Spock was fully human, Sam might have stood a chance if they actually came to blows. While hesitant to fight a superior officer, Sam could have surprised Spock, who had likely forgotten about his loss of Vulcan strength. Regardless, this confrontation between Spock and Kirk was avoided, unlike Spock's later altercations with Sam's younger brother, James T. Kirk (William Shatner).
Spock & Captain James T. Kirk Had Many Epic Star Trek Fights
Spock's friendship with Captain James T. Kirk is renowned, but they have also had intense conflicts. Despite their deep loyalty and love for each other, there were instances in the original Star Trek series where they engaged in combat. One of their most famous fights occurred in season 2's "Amok Time," when Spock believed he had killed Kirk in a battle to the death on Vulcan. In another episode from season 1, "The Enemy Within," Spock fought a duplicate of Kirk. Additionally, in the "Mirror Mirror" episode, alternate versions of Spock and Kirk clashed.
In J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2009 reboot, the younger James T. Kirk (played by Chris Pine) and Spock (played by Zachary Quinto) initially started off as rivals before eventually becoming allies aboard the Starship Enterprise. In this alternate Kelvin timeline, their relationship began with animosity but quickly transformed into trust and friendship. Lt. Kirk will join the USS Enterprise in season 2 of Strange New Worlds and will officially meet Spock in Star Trek's Prime Timeline for the first time. Given their strong personalities, it is possible that a showdown between Spock and James T. Kirk may occur in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
