Starfield offers a multitude of breathtaking destinations for players to explore, some of which draw inspiration from real-life places, objects, and historical events. One fascinating example is the inclusion of the Opportunity Rover, a noteworthy symbol of NASA's scientific endeavors. Paying homage to its real-world counterpart, the Opportunity Rover can be discovered in Starfield at the exact location where it once tirelessly collected data for 14 remarkable years.
However, before players can embark on this thrilling discovery and come across the snow globe adorning the Opportunity Rover, they must first engage with an exhibit at a late-game location. Completing this task will unlock the opportunity to search for and encounter the Opportunity Rover, thereby enriching their list of in-game activities. With newfound excitement, players can set their course for Mars and marvel at this remarkable extraterrestrial artifact.
Caution: The following guide contains minor spoilers pertaining to Starfield's main storyline, specifically referencing a late-game location that players will explore.
At present, it seems that the prompt to discover the Opportunity Rover in Starfield may be overlooked. It is advisable for players to ensure they activate it during their initial visit to the said location.
How to Find the Opportunity Rover on Mars
In order to locate the Opportunity Rover in the Starfield, players must initially engage with the MER Program exhibit during their initial visit to the NASA Launch Tower. Situated on the left side of the lobby area, players will discover various other exhibits scattered about. Despite the possibility of revisiting the NASA Launch Tower following the completion of the Unearthed main story mission, players may not be able to access the area with all of the exhibits, at least not currently.
After exploring the exhibit, players will receive a notification informing them that the activity of searching for the Opportunity Rover on Mars has been added to their list. While inside buildings in Starfield, fast-travel is not permitted, requiring players to decide between retracing their steps and heading outside or persevering and completing the mission. Once accomplished, players will have the freedom to refer to their Mars map and locate the Opportunity Rover landing site, which will notably appear to the south of Cydonia.
Upon exploring the planetary surface, players will come across a sparse landscape consisting mainly of rocks and craters, accompanied by the Opportunity Rover. Perched atop this rover is the prized Opportunity snow globe, among other collectibles scattered throughout the Starfield game. While no achievement awaits those who gather all these items, certain players may derive satisfaction from this accomplishment. Starfield is currently accessible for both PC and Xbox Series X|S users.
