Amell faced several controversies throughout his career. In 2020, he received criticism for promoting his podcast during the Black Lives Matter movement. Three years later, he defended his comments about the SAG-AFTRA strike, expressing frustrations about not being able to promote his show Heels due to the labor dispute. Despite his understanding of the strike, Amell hoped to encourage negotiation and planned to discuss his support for SAG leadership.
Amell stated, "I have deep affection for my coworkers, my wife, and my children. However, it doesn't imply that I always share the same perspectives as them. Nevertheless, I am committed to standing by them during challenging times, just as I am committed to standing by my union."

Social Media Controversy
Amell temporarily left social media in September 2015 following a tweet he made concerning Ahmed Mohamed, a Muslim student. Ahmed had been taken into custody after bringing a homemade clock to school, with others mistaking it for an explosive device. Amell's tweet emphasized that stereotyping both Texas and Ahmed was equally unwarranted.
A Professional Segue Into Wrestling
He refrained from deleting the post, but subsequently took to Facebook Live to provide a clarification, expressing, "I did not intend to cause offense to anyone today. My intention was not to draw a parallel between completely distinct matters. I merely meant to convey that two wrong actions do not create a right outcome. I acknowledge that I have caused offense, and during such situations, it is best to take a step back. Take care, I will return soon, and that concludes it."Amell transformed his passion for professional wrestling into a lucrative venture by advocating for a special appearance on WWE's popular Raw show in 2015. He actively participated in numerous thrilling matches, ultimately contributing to the triumph of the Ring of Honor in 2017. Amell's final venture inside the wrestling ring materialized in 2019 during All Elite Wrestling's Revolution event.
Dealing With Personal Problems
Amell experienced a panic attack while being interviewed on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast "Inside of You" in January 2020.
"I feel mentally drained. I've cried two times today. My wife insisted that I see a doctor because she was genuinely concerned about my well-being," he shared during the episode. "I simply need a moment to myself. I yearn to fulfill my roles as a father and husband, and I don't even have the desire to engage with my friends much at the moment. All I truly need is a break."
He later took to Twitter to elaborate on the health scare, sharing more details. In a tweet from the same month, he mentioned his appearance on Rosey's podcast after Arrow had ended. However, due to a severe panic attack, the interview had to be cut short. It was not a pleasant experience. Nevertheless, he returned a few weeks ago to discuss the incident further. At that time, he was in a very difficult situation, but he happily revealed that he has made significant progress since then. He urged his followers to listen to the podcast and shared his gratitude for the support he received.
Addressing Allegations of Racism
Amell stirred up controversy in June 2020 when he decided to keep hosting his podcast “How’d You Do It?” amid the Black Lives Matter protests.
"Grant Gustin was originally scheduled to be our guest this morning," Amell announced in a Twitter video. He continued, "However, he reached out to me yesterday in a very polite and calm manner, expressing concerns about discussing his rise to fame during the ongoing events in Los Angeles. He felt it might not be appropriate at this time."
Following this, Amell received criticism from comic book writer Tee Franklin on social media, who accused him of having "racist ass ways." Amell responded to the accusation on Twitter, acknowledging the comment by saying, "You got me. I hope that brings you some satisfaction." He then proceeded to follow Franklin and offered to engage in a conversation if she needed any clarification or if she could help him better understand the issue.
Saying Goodbye to Oliver Queen
After being on The CW for eight seasons, Amell announced that Arrow would be concluding. The popular show aired its last episode in 2020. Three years later, Amell returned to portray Oliver Queen once again in the final season of The Flash.
Amell expanded his career by taking on a prominent role in Starz's Heels alongside Alexander Ludwig. In addition, he has collaborated with his cousin Robbie Amell in multiple films within the Code 8 franchise.

In June 2022, Stephen was removed from a flight traveling from Austin to Los Angeles after a dispute with his spouse. He promptly provided a clarification once the incident gained widespread attention.
On Monday afternoon, while on a Delta flight from Austin to LA, an argument ensued between my wife and me. Following a request to lower my voice, I complied. However, approximately 10 minutes later, I was instructed to exit the flight. I promptly followed this instruction without any forceful removal.
Stephen provided further details about the events leading up to the incident two months later.
"I got on a plane after consuming too many drinks in a public setting," he disclosed during a podcast called "Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum" in August 2022. "I was upset about something unrelated to my wife, Cass, and deliberately instigated a confrontation. I did it because I wanted to create a scene and vent my frustrations openly."
Stephen further shared, "Throughout the entire incident, my wife only said one thing to me." Stephen recounted, "She said, 'If you don't speak more quietly, they might ask you to leave the plane.' I mistakenly referred to it as an argument between my wife and me, but it wasn't an argument. I take full responsibility for this. I feel like I managed to go almost a decade without behaving like a jerk in public, but I acted like one in this instance. [Cassandra] was understandably even more upset when I described it as an 'argument' instead of 'picking a fight.'"
Making a Scene
Stephen and Jean filed a lawsuit in September 2022 seeking the closure of an animal rescue organization situated next to their residence. In their legal filing, Stephen and Jean alleged that their neighbors were operating an unlicensed "extensive illicit animal kennel enterprise" on residential properties.
Two months later, the couple suffered a defeat in their legal dispute and responded to allegations that they displayed anger in the courtroom regarding the verdict.
In a text message to Page Six, he vehemently denied the claims, stating, "I remained silent throughout the proceedings and purposely avoided any interaction with the defendants. These accusations are merely an attempt to tarnish my reputation. Rest assured, if there was even a hint of truth to them, I wouldn't be composing this text message."

Legal Battle
Stephen gained attention in July 2023 when he publicly voiced his opposition to the actors union's decision to strike. This came after a labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Speaking to fans at GalaxyCon, Stephen expressed his concern that many people were unaware of the strike. While he expressed support for his union, he made it clear that he did not support striking as a negotiating tactic. He found the whole situation to be frustrating and believed that the thinking behind it, particularly in relation to his show "Heels," was narrow-minded.
Stephen's statement about the strike received backlash, leading him to address the situation on Instagram, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that his intentions were not misunderstood. He compared the situation to the proverb, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions," acknowledging that many people wanted him to face consequences. However, he made it clear that he would continue to support his union for the foreseeable future. Stephen's response to the Black Lives Matter movement caused a division within his close circle of friends, including showrunner Carina MacKenzie and actress Aisha Tyler.
MacKenzie, the original creator of Roswell, New Mexico, expressed her disappointment in the lack of listening and personal growth from the people she loves. She stated on Twitter that this was a repeat of the situation, resulting in her feeling foolish for trusting them again. She also acknowledged that people can change, including herself, and that their values may have shifted in different directions. MacKenzie concluded by saying that she will no longer discuss the individual involved. In response, Tyler simply replied, "Word."
