Starfield has a bug that replaces a player's character model with a dead body when trying to change appearance using Enhance.
Despite being one of Bethesda's least glitch-ridden games, Starfield still experiences its fair share of bugs, although the majority pose no significant harm. The issue regarding the corpse model solely manifests in the appearance editor and does not impact regular gameplay, yet its occurrence remains an enigma.
A strange issue arises in Starfield when attempting to change appearance, resulting in a player's character model being replaced with a corpse when using Enhance. Despite being considered one of Bethesda's least glitchy titles in over ten years, Starfield still has its fair share of bugs. Fortunately, most of them are harmless and do not greatly affect gameplay, although some players have experienced entire cities disappearing in the past.
However, Starfield has also introduced several new features to the Bethesda sandbox formula. These include the ship builder, a more polished New Game Plus mode, and the ability to change appearance without the need for console commands, which was required in previous titles like Fallout 4 or Skyrim. Given Starfield's science fiction backdrop, integrating this feature into the game's lore was effortless for the developers. Additionally, players have the flexibility to extensively modify their appearance, including skin tone and body type.
CKCartman seems to be unable to benefit from a quality-of-life Starfield feature due to a strange glitch. Whenever they try to change their character's appearance, the menu screen replaces their model with that of a dead body. It remains a mystery why this bug persists, especially considering that CKCartman has not even reached New Game Plus in Starfield. The frozen corpse only appears when using Enhance or console commands to access the appearance change menu, while their character remains unaffected during regular gameplay.
Despite the unsettling and frustrating nature of this glitch, many players find amusement in its bizarre occurrence. Starfield uses normal NPCs wearing a specific equipment that transforms them into corpses, and somehow CKCartman's character temporarily equips this item when entering the appearance editor at an Enhance vendor.
The disturbing corpse bug in Starfield is expected to be resolved with the release of the official modding tools in early 2024. Unofficial Patches have been successful in fixing many bugs in previous Bethesda titles, making it highly likely that this issue will be addressed. It is worth noting that the dynamic nature of the Bethesda modding scene may also result in corpses becoming playable in the future. Starfield is currently accessible on PC and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
