The development studio responsible for Phantom Blade 0, S-Game, has revealed some exciting details about the game. During a recent showcase event hosted by Sony, which featured upcoming PS5 titles including Spider-Man 2 and a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, Phantom Blade 0 stood out as a unique and fast-paced samurai-themed game. The game is actually a sequel to the Chinese-exclusive mobile game Phantom Blade: Executioners, and follows the story of an assassin named Soul who has been framed for the murder of one of his former masters. The gameplay trailer showcased the game's stylish action and various enemies players can expect to encounter. S-Game has also confirmed the game's estimated playtime and whether or not it will feature multiplayer.
According to a Q&A session on the official Discord server for the game, Phantom Blade 0's main story will take players 30-40 hours to complete. In addition to the main story, there are numerous side-quests to tackle. Upon completing the main story, players will unlock endgame content such as a multiplayer dungeon, boss rush mode, and a rogue-like game mode. It's worth noting that the game will not be exclusive to PS5.
Phantom Blade 0's gameplay is reminiscent of classic hack-and-slash games, with combat that has been compared to the likes of Ninja Gaiden. The combat scenes featured in the trailer were rendered in-engine, without the use of pre-rendered animations. Although special camera tools were used to enhance the cinematic feel of the trailer, the developers assure players that the game will offer familiar action game mechanics like parry and dodge roll skills.
Phantom Blade 0 is currently in development for PS5.
